This could be an interesting concept if it was 2 door and Samurai sized. That's what I thought when I first saw a photo until I looked closer.

I don't love it, but I appreciate that it is a smaller body on frame SUV. Those are becoming as rare as hens teeth.

The part that would have been interesting to me is if Toyota offered the PHEV power train from the Rav4 into this. ~40 miles of EV only range and about 300 hp would have been great in a vehicle of this size.

Summertime charges allow our ‘24 Rav Prime to get 52 miles with winter seeing 46. Perfect urban assault vehicle.

The PHEV seems to be the perfect answer at the moment for building efficient vehicles. What you are getting for mileage is pretty much perfect for almost 100% of peoples travel needs on a day to day basis. Couple that with unlimited on road range using the petrol engine for no range anxiety. I am happy to hear that more manufacturers are embracing the idea.

A body on frame PHEV? That might get me to consider a manufacturer other than Toyota.

A couple of years ago they teased us with their upcoming all electric vehicle lineup and this was in the mix. It's possible they decided to go a completely different direction with the powertrain, but it's also possible that the electric only version comes here. They've stated only electrified vehicles will be sold in America and maybe that is what they are waiting for?

As someone who has had a 40, 60, 80, and 100 and always had a Cruiser for 40+ years, I don't daily drive them. I commute and grocery get in a CRV.

And given I live in Creede, I pick which vehicle to take based on which dirt road I'm going to be on. Btw, Mineral County doesn't have a paved road that is longer than a mile outside of the highway.

I would replace the CRV with this easily. Body on frame, part time 4WD, I like it.

Btw, saying it’s “like a Jeep Patriot” is hard for me to understand. It’s not made by Jeep. How many vehicles have we like but they were made by Land Rover or Jeep?

Agree with that. This thing is nothing like a CRV/RAV4/Patriot/Forester. It's body-on-frame, a solid rear axle (with e-locker), part time 4WD, actual automatic instead of annoying CVT, etc. It's small and kind of weird boxy but didn't people say some things similar in 1979 about the 4WD mini truck? They were small and light duty and seemed plain. They're not really a Toyota. Son of a Land Cruiser? Balderdash!
