I totally agree Randy and Matt. Rudy, myself and others and I have been talking about this and how to do it different next time for sure. The buddy system came up as an alternative as well.

Perhaps we should open another thread on this.

The biggest concern were some of the new folks wandered off by themselves. If they would have gotten stuck/lost and had issues with radio contact it could have been a problem. We may want to adopt the buddy system so at least 2 vehicles are always together just to be safe.

One has a strap set for pulling and one has a strap set for getting pulled! :D:p::bolt:

That run is like herding cats....Scott you did great job!

I think it is up to everyone to communicate with the rig in front of you and the rig behind you on every run. Introduce yourself to a stranger and you will make a friend every time.

Communication is always key. I may have missed it but was there a driver meeting in the begining like years past? Sometimes this helps to just introduce to the new folks who is leading the trail or group and give them an idea of what we all need to do to keep safe. Just the little reminders can go a long way. And this will also help to see who has a cb or ham or nothing and that way we can make an effort to talk to them another way to let them whats going on. my .02

I agree Scott did a great job. In spite of that I was being followed by 4 vehicles back up to the big snow drift who decided to turn off behind me without saying anything.

While I waited 1/2 mile up the trail for them (they never came), an unlocked mini truck finally came along 30 minutes later. The driver was glad he found someone as he was alone and did not know where the rest of the group was. It all worked out good in the end but just like scuba diving, if we do a buddy system then everyone agrees at a minimum you never separate from your buddy vehicle.

Lets go back up in the next week or so and practice, it was too much fun to wait until next year to do it again :)

added photo of mini with strap hanging on back too.

I knew that was coming Uncle Ben. Here is my response:

The only reason I had my winch out was to try to pull out a stuck 80 series land cruiser. I had to winch past it. Then I used Chris's strap to pull it out.

What do I see? 3 different rigs that all had a fun day. All three drivers knew better than to put away the recovery gear until the end of the day.

A little more carnage than was first thought. The hub studs were my fault for not doing my normal tighten before wheeling, but this is crazy. Just had the springs recoated and that may be the cause. If not, then I blame Ige :)

Gary, I noticed that on Ige's "flying Gary" picture. I figured it was just oscillation....check it out...

It was fun to ask Chris on the Ham if I could borrow his strap...which was in my truck, along with his tree saver, and his clevis, and someone else's 20' strap...

Being the last truck in the line, you end up being the cleaner with a lot of recovery gear!
