2010 Snow and Pizza Run

I will mention that I saw way too many D-rings placed between towstraps when yanking people out. Those suckers make great canon balls when a strap breaks. They can shatter windows, dent bodies, distroy radiators, and if you took one to the head I bet it could kill you. Straps break, recovery points fail. Please lets all think and practice safety. Educate our fellow club members and friends with good recovery techniques. Know when it is time to put away the strap and use the winch. I am very greatful that the only damage I saw was to Gary's front hub studs and a tow strap that only tore 3/4 of the way through.

My First Snow Run!

Thanks to all for an awesome time. I am new to the forums and this was my first snow run (the only other trip I've been on was Ghost Town Run 2009 when we rode with Treeroot).

I rode in Snowrun's (John's) rig along with my husband Cougar337 (Ian). Spent a big portion of the day with just Treeroot, Amber and Ige. I took a lot of photos and although everyone in my group has been sharing i thought I would share some of my own

Glad you made it out and had a good time Farnham.

Good feedback. So what is the proper technique for hooking two straps together? I usually loop them together with no d-ring. But, when I did that Sat. on several hard pulls on Brady - I wasn't able to get them back apart. I am usually able to after working them by hand.

Put a stick in the loop! That will give you some wiggle room when you take them apart.

I believe sliding one end through of each of the two towstraps is the best meathod. I agree it can be difficult to separate them. I've never not been able to get them apart. Two towstraps stuck together is better alternative to a flying d-ring.

Regarding the issue with the groups splitting up, I've seen it pretty much at each of the last 4 snow runs. When you've got 20-30 trucks, many with different sizes and driver experiences, and a lot of stuck/pull/winch scenarios, it seems to make more sense to me to break up the group into "sub-groups" to keep the entire pack moving. It happened informally on Saturday, and I don't think there is anything wrong with it. But may some of the newer guys might feel differently? Maybe we should ensure that the line up includes an experienced person every 4-5 trucks to have waist gunner responsibility?

One thing i would add and we have done in the past is to spread the winches out among the group. :thumb:

The biggest concern were some of the new folks wandered off by themselves. If they would have gotten stuck/lost and had issues with radio contact it could have been a problem. We may want to adopt the buddy system so at least 2 vehicles are always together just to be safe.

A little more carnage than was first thought. The hub studs were my fault for not doing my normal tighten before wheeling, but this is crazy. Just had the springs recoated and that may be the cause. If not, then I blame Ige
