When you’re driving back to CO and find a Aqualu 45 cab along the way on FB and you rented a car.

Just make sure you got the “Jackass” jump it into a pond insurance and some NRS straps. Give’em a twist to insure you don’t get the dreaded stap hum.

Love it!

I once met a guy on an exit ramp off I-70 100 miles west of Junction City, Kansas to buy the rear diff for a 1995 Suzuki Samurai for $50.00 I found on CL as I was hauling a load of furniture to our Nederland house. Seemed sketchy at the time but was a super nice guy that collected Samurais out in the middle of no where.

As I was driving my FJ45 this past April I noticed tat whenever I braked it was pulling to the right. Jacking up the left front wheel and examining the brakes it was clear that I had a brake cylinder the had a blown seal. Damn! It only lasted 51 years!

When I looked at the shoes were pretty worn too I ordered in new cylinders and shoes from Kurt. The shoes were in stock but they told me that the cylinders were special and they ordered them in from Toyota. After a time they told me that Toyota kept cancelling their order so I got the Toyota part numbers from them and checked with our friends at Stevinson. They said that the cylinders were in stock in the Toyota warehouse in Ontario California so I ordered them in. I figured if one blew out then the other three should be replaced along with all four shoes.

Long story short, it took several months to get my non-USA brake cylinders into my hands, and over the past couple of evenings I got everything replaced. I still have to bleed them, my mitivac is frigging useless, the seal between the reservoir and the cap is shot.

Blown seal

I gotta say that these three inch wide drum brakes kick serious patootie, they'll put your nose on the windshield unless I'm hauling a ton of gravel or rip rap, when in which case that'll smooth out the ride from the one ton suspension. Drums are definitely more work than disks but they stop like nobodies business on this truck.

Agreed, getting the mitivac to seal at the reservoir is sometimes impossible.

A few weeks back my exhaust manifold developed a crack. Redline Landcruisers had a good used manifold. They cermaic coated my intake and exhaust manifold and had it machined for me. I also installed their accelerator cable set up. Lastly, the housing between my throttle body and air cleaner was a homemade deal. I was able to find a better set up off FB marketplace. I used the base plates and top along with my old housing to make the seal so much better.

If you didn't clear coat these, you'll want to put some paint on them very soon ;)

Do I just give them a once over while installed? Just got it aligned, I’d rather not take them out.

At this point since they are already installed, Just get as much grease / oils off of them and spray them on the truck. They rust really fast.

Did a few chores during the balmy 104 degree afternoon on Sunday...

62 - figured out the PO already upgraded the a/c to R134a so all I had to do was recharge it, and she blows cold now! Darn... I would have driven the 62 to the Black Hills if I had figured this out earlier!

200 - checked and topped off fluids. Think I have the valley coolant leak. Sigh. Washed waxed and detailed. Still need some work on the major pinstripes I got in SD!

40 - bled the clutch again, hopefully it is all good now.

Tundra - figured out the source of the odd noise!

Progress…

I finally got the Safari window back from Terry @Blue Crush Auto Glass with glass installed and I’m working on getting the gasket from @andybudge on MUD installed. Which I mistakenly thought was for the actual glass window however its for the outside of the fold out window frame. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Terry from Blue Crush stopped by to drop off the Safari front window and took a look at the rear sliding windows and City Racer LLC gaskets. He’s going to cut the glass for it. I love that City Racer LLC gaskets have the drain hole in the gasket which as you can see in the last pic lines up perfectly with the cab drain hole.

I also found out that the earlier production 1963 FJ45LP’s didn’t have the drain hole. They also have a fixed windshield vs my removable one.

Thanks @justcruisin and @HDavis for the recommendation!

Hoping to get the engine/transmission and transfer case installed this afternoon as well.

Just a couple of weeks ago I pretty much rebuilt the front end of my 4runner. I put uniball uca's, 555 inner tie rods, oem outer tie rods, uniball adjustable rear trak bar and a left side front spring spacer to correct the 3rd gen 4runner lean. Also in the last year I've put a new steering rack, new lower control arms, new oem ball joints, cv axles and LC80 8 wrap springs on the rear. It's so nice to have nice tight steering and no more crazy wiggle in the back if I hit bumps on the highway.

Got this stabbed on new Nakamoto engine mounts…first time I’ve seen an engine in the truck since I’ve owned it. Just need to wait until I go back to VA in September to pickup a 4 speed and transfer case to drop in behind it. I’m also going to swap over to a column shift and I’ll have 4 on the tree.

People's Soviet Socialist Republic of California,
Just finished the radio install. Still need to put the center console back together and seats back in but the mobile GMRS is installed.

That's a five watt radio?
