We've had self driving transportation forever.

The future of Marconi?

I'll be pondering this thread discussion the next time I drive my 40 to the bank with my paper paycheck and then head over to Twist and Shout for some Motorhead and Merle Haggard on vinyl. Of course I am typing this on a "computer" machine. At night with electric lighting. Hmm...

We had to turn in our cheap ioniq 5 lease and have been looking at our next electric daily now that we are accustomed to cheap transportation and 'fuel'.

We went with a used 2023 Tesla model y awd 3 row car. Where self driving is now is mind blowing. Type in the destination and it does everything including parking.

I just saw the release of the upcoming roadster and I can't imagine where you would use any of these features but it is cool that they are engineering to this level. I guess they must be taking the thrusters from the space x rockets that make it land upright and applying it here.

It’s alive!! Holy thread revival. Yes, the FSD is amazing. I’m looking forward to when they will allow it unsupervised. Imagine telling your car to drive home after dropping you at the airport. Cha Ching…saved $90.

Does your 250 self brake coming into curves? My rental 4-runner does….drives me nuts. But I am enjoying 26mpg

It has a lane departure feature that I turned off minutes after purchase. It would correct the steering if you crossed a painted line. I’ve never had it self brake into a corner. It has self braked when it thought I was going to hit something like when parking. I wish I was enjoying 20+ MPG.

The lane departure was easy to turn off but nothing I tried would disable auto braking in curves. If you feather the gas it alternates braking accelerating which is nuts. No way I would want that on during snow. Switching off the adaptive cruise helped some but I think I was missing a menu selection somewhere. At least the “braking” was largely regenerative and not disks.

Wonder if you could flash the computer to a 4 runner program and see mpg benefits. Other than the part time 4wd function, I think the hardware is identical.

Learned, almost the hard way, about the auto braking exiting the Johnson Tunnel into a hard snow. The sweeping left hander found us in the ‘24 RAV4 slowly passing a semi as I tried to maintain a steady speed to get around him, sloshy spray making visibility sketchy as we went. Got into the alternating brake/feather/braking you describe. I could tell I wasn’t in charge but couldn’t look at the truck - Suz said we were about a foot away from the truck’s fuel pump tanks at one point as we negotiated the turn. Definitely missing a menu option at that point. I don’t think I will ever ride in a Waymo.
