With an selectable like an ARB up front, you can disengage the locker to help with tight turns and relieve stress on your front shafts, even RCVs can only take so much. Those TSLs are really heavy and anything to help your steering system would be a plus. A Detroit locker will make clunk sounds similar to a lunch box locker due to the design style, they both engage when torque is applied to the driveline and allow slippage of dog clutches when torque is removed. The difference there is the Detroit is a complete carrier and lunchboxes utilize the stock open carrier.

True those tires weigh like 100lbs a piece. 😵‍💫🥴I have a Detroit style locker in the rear. I've never heard it clunk like that tho. I do like the option of disengaging as needed, instead of needing to unlock the front hubs to disengage in a pinch. I'm really leaning towards the air lockers, just need to decide on the compressor situation I think.

My next quandary tho is to have a spare tire, or not. And if so, then where would I even carry it?! They are HUGE!
The tires alone cost $650. And I don't even know what wheels are on it to find another matching one.

I’d do an arb up front. I had one for years with no issues. I had a couple of detroits up front and while they worked fine both times recoil from a shaft breaking took out the Detroit too.
Lots of people say you have to have a spare, I suppose if you’re driving it it would be a good idea but I carried a patch kit for years.

That's about where I'm at... A good sized patch kit...
Cuz this is a 33" in the bed of a 1st gen. I just don't see how a 38 would even FIT back there....

I run my 37 on my rear carrier, but it's quite a beefy setup.

Do you have the roll cage inside the bed area under the softopper? I've been looking at the DIY weld kit, & have been wondering about how it might fit with the softopper.

Careful looking at @Squishy! 's 4R too hard. It is pretty much one of the coolest trucks I have ever seen! It will lead you down all sorts of crazy new project paths.

Thanks for posting this build. It looks like it is already an awesome truck that will be even cooler when you get done with it.

You’d have to mount the spare off the back like Justin. Depends on what you’re after. I don’t like the weight personally and I’ve seen them hang up a few times. Pretty sure I stopped carrying a spare when I moved past 37-38 tire range

I have a Canback Campershell. Very different than softtopper and unfortunately not made anymore. ☹️

Plug kit and that tread glue stuff and that’ll get you home. A spare would be good but can be avoided for a little bit. May need to look into a rear swing for it.

I had a great weekend working on Genni. I got A LOT accomplished on her!! So for only having one major thing take a crapper I'm counting it as a productive weekend.
1. Took her top off! :cheer:

2. Took the CVT Awning off to sell it with the tent walls. (Hmu if you're interested)

3. Replaced the passenger front fender & massaged it to fit the door hinge & adjusted the turn light housing to fit it.

4. Ran wiring for the Auxbeam to have power without the ignition turned on, but added a switch so I can disable it & not drain the battery.

5. Cleaned TF out of the cab that was covered in Arkansas mud.
6. Removed the faded windshield banner. I'll have to cut a new one with better vinyl that won't fade so quickly.
7. Installed the hydraulic hood struts,

which led to the EFI regulator needing to be moved, in turn broke an old wire on the connector, & the fuel regulator being screwed up in the process & she was spewing gas all over the place.... 😵 (Parts are ordered...)

8. Ran wiring for the two cab speakers & power for the radio that I'll be installing soon.

9. Cleaned & Installed a vinyl cushion wrap on the rear roll bar that I bought off a wrecked 1st Gen.

10. And lastly I replaced the shifter knob with a pretty purple one!! 😆😆😆

💜💜💜
The list is getting shorter!!! Even though it doesn't feel like it! 🤣 She's scheduled to have the aformentioned suspension & steering upgrades done a week from now. So I'm hoping to get most of the stuff done that I can handle this week.
