I followed some snow cat tracks up by Lamartine a couple winters ago...he was able to keep going up the hill when my chains just dug me straight down and I had no forward movement with all fours spinning

Got a buddy up in Steamboat that has a couple snowcats that they use for shuttling backcountry ski runs! Pretty sweet if you're not in the mood to skin.

I believe you can apply for a use permit with the forest service for any national forest "area" that isn't currently under permit. Not positive about the specifics though. Might be a fun winter business if you could figure out how to pull it all together.
