My thoughts exactly. We could probably negotiate a good price, use it for Rubithon/Moab, then clean it up and sell it in the fall to recoup the expense. :thumb:

Who else is in? ;)

I could do that. How are we going to tow it out there?

Hmmm. We need 4 guys with 40s and $1000. Then where would we keep it?

if it's going on my truck, then you'll also need to get the gooseneck hitch from uncle ben, a rear airbag suspension, an intercooler and a lot of patience, cause you won't be going anyhwere real fast

The 5th wheel hookup is $1,600 for my Duramax. My dad just priced them last week. I could store it as long as it is legal. One of the ways I can keep the city off my ass is to put all my unregistered vehicles on a registered trailer;)

Why don't you guys form a RS trailer sub-committee? Someone step up to lead, then propose the club buy the trailer, then get it. You all (those wanting to trailer a rig to Rubithon) then personally chip in and buy Mike the 5th wheel hookup, plus help with fuel. Mike also gets to use it to take his & his dad's 40's to Moab. I don't have a 40, or a rig that needs trailered, but I'd still vote in favor of that, even if the club took a small hit on the resale.

Or heck, the club already owns one trailer, maybe it just needs to own another one capable of hauling vehicles? only real issue is storage & having a club member with a truck capable of pulling the thing.. but sounds like those may be doable? Or just sell the trailer after Rubithon and give the $$ back to the club. Mike keeps the 5th wheel stuff, you all still come out way ahead on transport.

x2. Sounds like a great plan Tim!

Do we have 4 people with 40's willing to do this? Sounds like Chris, Mike and I are game, and if Mike is willing to pull it. Mike, is your dad thinking about Rubithon? How about Matt F.? Timmbuk?

I wouldn't need to trailer to Moab, but someone else could fit on there.

My only interest in this is seeing some of my buddies save some money, and get a 5th wheel attachment. I think you'd be better served if your chairman actually had a 40.. hey wait doesn't our club treaurer own a 40? He was thinking of taking it to Rubithon too, if he could economincally trailer it.. that'd be my vote. :thumb:

As part of the deal we can just chip in for a storage facility. It's only for a few months. :D

That would be the ultimate test of my trailer backing skills. I'll give it a shot though.

It can be kept at my place. I have plenty of room. I would not want this to last for years, but I would be happy to keep it for "a while."

My experience has been the longer the trailer, the easier it is. But I've never backed something that long, so what do I know. OTOH, tiny trailers you can manually "correct" are probably the easiest.. or at least the easiest to get out of whatever corner you've backed yourself into.

If this gets real serious then maybe someone with the "powa" could move the related posts to a new RS trailer thread or something :D...

My question...to really tow that thing with 4 40's on it wouldn't a person really need a dually? That has got to be a ton of weight just in the trailer...Throw on 4 40s (if that many would fit) and  - My FIL has that Dodge V10 w/ gooseneck that he routinely tows a horse trailer with but towing that car hauler with 4 40s on it...Oh my

If the club springs for it, I think Mike volunteered his yard since he can use it to store some of his unregistered rigs. :thumb:

I assume trailers are insurable? Heaven forbid it's wrecked, or something, we would owe the club. If Mike will be hauling it, it should probably be in his name. Wonder how much that costs? :)
