Spotted a couple unobtanium Toyotas on Top of the World:

Nice 80 with a raptor job at Dos Gringos in Carbondale. Are you lurking on here?

Update: Ran into the young lady driving it who surprised me with "my dad has 14 land cruisers right now" and had intimate knowledge of where every cruiser in the valley lives. Damn.

So that 70 is too new to be registered in CO, right?

Government plates in the window??

They appeared to be military folks doing some training on Top of the World. The plates were just taped up to the back window which was kinda funny. I wanted to stop and chat, but I was with a Land Rover crew and they were already giving me a hard time for taking pics of the Toyotas :ROFLMAO:

I saw this a few months ago as well. Either people are comfortably willing to take big risks - like the feds seizing the vehicle, being taken to court for fraud, or the insurance company denying every and all claims when they find out what it is - or somebody spent gobs of money to steal the body off a perfectly good new vehicle and plop it on a frame that’s US market or at least an import that’s legal here. That’s my guess anyway. My bet is on the former - just people with enough money not to care.

There was a guy on Mud years ago who adamantly claimed he found a legal loophole to import brand new LCs. He got called out on his BS I think.

There are a few of those newer 70s in the Aspen area. All of the ones I have seen are custom builds on US legal frames. 200k+ builds.
Yep, legal frame makes it all good in the eyes of the law from what I understand. That one I saw definitely looked like a 79 frame though. Montana plates can’t shield you from all repercussions…
