What's with these electrical parts suppliers raping you with shipping charges? I bought 5 items with total weight barely over 1 lb. $44 worth of electrical crap.

Total shipping = $26. Thumbs down for Waytek Wire. Digikey isn't much better, but certainly better than how I just got raped.

Buyer beware. Waytek will magically split your order into multiple orders and as such, pile on extra shipping charges.

Does anyone know of a source locally for Weatherpack connectors? I just need a single, 1 pin female connector, but I don't really want to spend $10 to ship $2 worth of connectors.

I think a lot of that shipping stuff is they are trying to recover their costs. As a business, I can't ship anything anywhere for less than about $6 actual shipping costs. Then there is the box. They normally cost a couple bucks just for a simple box. Then you have to pay somebody to pull your order (correctly), somebody has to do the paperwork, and seriously, at the end of the day it really does cost $10-$20 to ship an order of any size. Sorry guys, that's just the way of the world. If the vendor is reasonable, the bigger your order, the smaller the percentage of the total cost is shipping and handling. Seriously, for small items it costs about the same as a larger order. After complaining for years about $OR's shipping and handling, I have had my own eyes opened on actual costs as the commercial shipper with my own small business.

Rolling "the price of doing business" costs into the price of the item rather than shipping costs is less disingenuous than paying many multiples the price for shipping than what shipping costs.

But in my case the mcnaster carr price gouging occurs on both sides because 6 feet of 5/8" foam pipe insulation at a cost of 30 bucks is already inflated ridiculously so if they tried to move the handling costs to the product price point and out of the shipping costs it would be too obvious..so they gouge both

Agree with Mike. Stock pickers, boxes, printers, software, paperwork, etc - all part of the cost of doing business, and should be treated as such. OR, if the company wants to roll all this into the shipping cost, then provide a reasonable shipping cost estimator at the POS, or put the cost in front of the customer before closing the sale and shipping the item.
To "hide" these costs when buying is where it feels shady.

I always include a firm quote on shipping when I do written quotes, there is no shipper shock and hopefully the only surprise is that my customers are delighted with what they got based on what they expected.
