I wasn't in it:cry:. Too far in the back.
I have you in all the lunch pictures with it. Total brain fart we should have done truck selfies!

You made it possible for Toyota to attend Cruise Moab and you were a great tail gunner for the Toyota group.

Here's one that has started floating around the internet.

Yeah, if you guys haven’t seen this yet, if you look closely, you can see where the top comes off like the first gen 4runners

The 300-series is 77.9 inches wide and the new Tundra/Sequoia are 80.2 and 81.6 inches wide for the standard and TRD Pro models respectively. So same frames, but the Tundra/Sequoia is significantly wider.

The 200 series is 77.6 inches wide. Too bad the Sequoia is 4 inches wider. Oh well, that takes it off the radar for me

The GX460 (Land Cruiser Prado) is 74.2 inches wide and the 80 series Land Cruiser is 72.05 inches wide

The 100 series is 76.8 inches wide

GX460 is supposed to come out with a Hybrid in 2024.

Seems like a lot of speculation. What is known for certain is the 300 series dimensions.

A few key numbers IMO. I selected the GR Sport trim as I believe this is the top one and we've not gotten a poverty spec Cruiser for a long time.

Track Width = 1667mm (65.6")
Overall Width = 1990mm (78.3")
Overall Length = 4995mm (196.7")
Wheelbase = 2850mm (112.2")

I've not been able to find anything official but this site lists dimensions.

They say:

Track Width: 67.9" (1725 mm)
Overall Width: 79.9" (2029 mm)
Overall Length: 205.1" (5210 mm)
Wheelbase: 122.0" (3099 mm)

So if that site is correct (big 'if'), it seems to me to be similar in size. It seems consistent that the chassis is probably is darn similar with slightly different, e.g. Americanized, bodywork, and I assume accommodations for IRS on the Sequoia.

I guess it could work as a mild overlander like some people use Tundras for. But at that point why not just use a tundra? Then you get a bed for tons of cargo.

This will be a segment leader. They will sell TONS of these. What I am reading about the Sequoia finally seems like evidence that Toyota has an interest in innovating again. This hybrid version will sell especially well if gas stays up above $4 a gallon or goes to the $6-7 I expect it will. Who will it be used by? The people who buy it instead of a mini van. I do wish that the Sequoia had more boxes checked for what I would want in a vehicle, but I am not who they actually care about selling to.

I am just hoping that the new 4 Runner or Toyota LC replacement is a return to the simpler designs and smaller size of years past. It would be especially exciting if Toyota decides to compete more with the new Bronco. I could get behind a twin turbo 2.4L engine. The unfortunate truth though, is that I am much more interested in the Ineos Grenadier than anything that is coming down the pipeline from Toyota if I buy a new vehicle.

Unless Toyota really steps up their game, in a few years I will buy a Ford Bronco. Removable roof and doors is a key feature for ultimate fun. Toyota failed with the FJ Cruiser to bring back the 40 magic, and I don't see them giving us a removable top on the 4Runner. Toyota is not listening to the enthusiasts who love the older, smaller trucks — they just want to "be competitive" by offering their own versions of the Ford Explorer (4Runner) and Expedition (Sequoia) so people can drive to Costco and buy more shit.

Toyota has never really been into the flash. The Toyotas we loved were in their day also seen as dull in the market. It's just that all vehicles were more simple is all. They *were* better built than the competition and thus the root of our devotion.

Now for a variety of reasons all cars are more similar in design and quality. Toyota has maybe lost their manufacturing edge and others have caught up. Heck, half my truck is Delphi (GM) electronics and Dana/Spicer parts while Aisin and Denso are now OEMs to Ford and Ram. So Toyota can't really sell on quality. Due to regulations they can't really sell on safety, everything got the same junk now. So all they can do to stand apart is look more weird and have a bigger infotainment screen.

But one thing you cannot say is the Explorer and 4Runner are similar anymore. Ford's SUV is unibody, IFS/IRS and lacks a low range t-case now. The 4Runner is the last body-on-frame "real" truck-derived SUV and enough people know it. The automotive press dinks Toyota for it, too, being slower handling and all that.

With the elimination of the Cruiser and the way the Sequoia has gone (e.g. IRS, etc.) you have to think even Toyota migh not be that dumb as to mess up mostly owning that segment. Although everyone said Jeep owned their market with the Wrangler and Ford's Bronco is a direct threat to that, the 4Runner, Land Rovers, etc. So maybe Toyota can screw things up worse. Never say never.

@DaveInDenver was very close. My source is highly reliable.

Width: 79.9” (2030mm)
Height: 75.3” (1913mm)
Wheelbase: 122.0” (3100mm)
Fr. Tread: 68.6” (1741.5mm)
Rr. Tread: 68.4” (1737mm)

Yup. Couldn’t agree more with the future. Buying a 4runner and having to chop off panels, cut things, just to get 33” tires to fit is ridiculous. I can buy a Ford Bronco and they want me to modify it. The Land Cruiser 200 is a boat on the trails, it’s also the same issue with every land cruiser is that manufactures have a tax for anything land cruiser, and you can’t find parts. I love the new Tundra, but it’s not something I need or want to drive.

You're right and this is also why I get so frustrated with them. They literally have a combination of SEVEN crossovers and SUVs. WHY???? Rav-4, C-HR, Corolla Cross, Venza, Highlander, 4runner, Sequoia. How much different is the Rav-4 than the C-HR or Corolla Cross? But they aren't willing to bring out a competitor to the Bronco and Jeep? How much tooling/costs are associated with each of the vehicles listed above and how big is the delineation between those customer bases? That's what kills me about it. I have a hard time believing that, when taking into comparing theoretical sales to the 5 crossovers they offer, that they wouldn't sell more top-off SUV's.

Damn, you are right (as usual). To be honest, I love the 5th gen 4Runner. The automotive press has its head(s) up its ass(es). They continually disparage the Jeep Wrangler for sticking with a solid front axle in addition to raging about how dated the 4Runner is with its body-on-frame construction. But Jeep remains true to its loyalists. I'm not as confident that Toyota will remain staunch in their devotion to their fan base. But money talks, and they do sell the hell out of the 4Runner.

But the Ford Bronco has those removable doors. They are so well thought out. They are better than a Jeep, better than an FJ40. I want me some removable doors.

We can make that happen, we saw an 80 converted into a truck at CM2022. It had no roof either. We could probably get it done at the next club meeting ;)
