Dave, per usual, is being very self-deprecating and unnecessarily so, IMO. He wasn't a moron on the trail and I take responsibility for his 'Nest hit as I was his spotter at the time. The IFS made it really difficult to make one turn and a tire slipped off the top of a dirty rock just as he was clearing it. The weight of the 'Nest was his biggest disadvantage and aided the slip off the rock. This is what that rock did to the next guy. ;)
That said, the Rubicon can kick your ass.

Perhaps this one is a little more appropriate as to what the 'Con can do to you after a tiny slip:

I'm working on it now. I got a copyright infringement notification for the music. It took literally about 30 minutes from the time I uploaded it for the The Beatles to send me a take-down message. It was view number 3 or something. It may be viewable now but there may not be any audio.

Reality check, how would you guys rate the Rubicon? What are the minimum requirements to drag an 80 over the trail without destroying her?

Jeep just took a couple trailhawk grand Cherokees through the Rubicon. I'm sure your runner will be fine.

Sort of - with a team of 8 rock stackers, and only running Cadillac Hill to Rubicon Springs, downhill, IIRC.

Longer wheelbases and overhangs can definitely make sections interesting, but it's probably my favorite trail I've ever run. Would love to go back through with a group of Cruisers, pencil me in as a maybe. Not sure I'd want a RTT up there for Cadillac. Make sure to hit the rope swing!

We ran it on worn down 315/70/17s and a 3" lift (compressed down a bit in the rear with all of parts/tools/gear) and got through still dragging/bumping in a number of areas. I snuck through without body damage, but the other 80 I saw out there smacked a rear quarter, but was lifted a little taller on true/fresh 35s. As someone said earlier, a tolerance for the possibility body damage is required.

I de-flared ahead of time. Seemed to be a good choice.

Jackson, and anyone else interested in going to Rubicon, I have a suggestion. The closest approximation that I have experienced in Colorado or Utah to the Rubicon Trail is Blanca Peak down near Alamosa. The obstacles found on Blanca are somewhat similar in degree of difficulty and more numerous that most trails around this part of the country. Rubicon's obstacles are seemingly nonstop with not much distance in between them. Blanca's aren't as BIG and quite as numerous but they keep you on your toes from the bottom of the trail all the way to the very top. Blanca is at much higher altitude and will strongly test your truck's power and cooling system - and you. I have run it only once but would like to do it again.

I can't get the audio to work even in private mode, it seems YouTube is the one monitoring this for copyrights. I can send an MP4 if anyone has a place to host a 5GB file.

I compiled everyones pictures and videos into a single DVD. made it kind of cool in spots. a long shot of Matt Farr then a cut to inside the truck and then a cut to another angle as he made a turn. I made a copy for everyone who went. If someone can show me how I could upload it to the site or Matt (cough cough) could upload his copy if he still has it :D

I had on an OME 2.5" lift with 33" tires. I called Tony Twiddy. "Yeah, you're going to struggle with that set up on the Rubithon."

So: I went to a Slee 4" lift with 35" tires. Running the Rubithon was challenging but doable.

Can you do it with something smaller? Sure. Just more struggle and less fun.

I still have my DVD somewhere. Do you have the final cut in a digital format? We can upload it easily without having to rip it from the DVD.

Sure, I have a paid Dropbox account that I can put it on.

So the above is for an 80...and when you say "smaller", I assume you mean smaller lift and tires on an 80?

We are really interested, but would either have to build up an 80 or the 4Runner...

I might. I should be able to convert it to a format if you tell me what is needed and how to upload it

Thanks Matt! That is what I was assuming, but I wanted to double check.

I would love to add my name to the list of folks looking for a spot riding shotgun. I'll gladly help with rock stacking, spotting, and will bring generous amounts of bourbon and bacon as added bonus
