probably at the exit where if you don't fill up you won't make it to the next gas station in Lake Tahoe

LOL. I was just going to say, it was probably the "last resort" gas station.

There used to be a gas station just outside of Canyonlands Needles district.

Swung in there once for ice when I was a kid.

Gas everywhere else: $0.90 a gallon
Gas at that station: $6.50 a gallon

We paid a low of $4.51 "cash" up to $5.00/gallon for diesel. :(

So, when gas tops $10 gallon I guess they'll have to modify all the pumps since they don't have enough digits to register that high.

I think our total gas cost was right around $900 for the whole trip. Hard to tell, since a couple of my riders popped for a tank or two every now and then so it wasn't all on me :thumb: But several times I got cut off at the $75 credit card limit, then didn't bother with filling it up since I knew we'd be buying gas again within 150-200 miles.

I got 1.5-2mpg less than Hulk, consistently, difference being my roof rack which held two water jugs and two gas cans. All of them were empty, but they still stuck up in the air.. The jugs were only used to haul river water up to the shower setup. And the irony is I never took a shower, and ended up giving both cans of gas to other guys in the club... ah well.

ps- yes I still bathed, but preferred to just go swimming with soap, which I did just about every day, some days twice.

What they did when it topped $1/gallon (yes, I am ancient) was they put a $1 sticker in front of the digits. They just altered the innards slightly to record the correct price.

Well, Stinky, I found the same effect from running a roof rack. About 2mpg impact to the Chili. Even though it started out not very aerodynamic. So it now has no roof rack.

When I got 19mpg, I was driving with the sides rolled up and the soft doors off. I think it was worth 1mpg though I can't explain why. 1mpg is 1mpg. Gonna be cold in the winter though.

We also learned some valuable lessons concerning drafting. We must have been a sight to see: a whole line of built Toyotas, cruising at 70mph, all spaced about 8 feet from one another.

I am staying silent for the most part but I will say the $9.59 fuel price is not altered at all! ;)

I need the exercise anyway... and my mountain bike is really nice - and unused for the most part!
