For those who are wondering whether they should try this run tomorrow, consider these things: your skill level, your experience and the condition of the rig you plan on driving. It has been noted on this thread that stock vehicles have successfully completed Red Cone without problem. True, but what was the skill set of the driver of that stock vehicle? Some people are just better drivers than others. As for experience, have you done much wheeling on trails more difficult than fire roads? Trails where you have to make adjustments on the fly as obstacles present problems for you and if you make an improper move you are suddenly in big trouble? While Red Cone isn't the very dangerous trail it was once thought to be, it still has sections that are completely unforgiving of mistakes made while driving in very distracting surroundings. Deaths have occurred on this trail due to driver error and constant attention and focus needs to be maintained all along the trail, especially as we get above treeline. As we will be above treeline for a considerable part of our wheeling day vehicle condition will be tested. Breakdowns above treeline are to be avoided if at all possible and leaving home with questions about your vehicle's condition can be a recipe for disaster. Red Cone will make demands upon your equipment and weak spots, that may not be a problem on a fire road, might well be exposed to your detriment.
Read and reread the traildamage report: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=9 It is a truly magnificent trail but more than just a walk in the park. Please remember that you are responsible for your safety and that of your passengers. If you have doubts as to whether you are ready for a run like Red Cone it may be judicious to do some other club runs before tackling one of this relative difficulty.
It is Rising Sun Club policy to not tolerate consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicants while on the trail. Those not following that rule will be asked to leave the group.
