My back is acting up again, so progress is slower than I'd like. But since Tuesday morning, got majority of the structure demoed. Then went and picked out the needed lumber (that took a half a day alone 🤬). Took the new 7 windows and one new door out of storage. And then added some corner gussets to support the main header beam. I need to remove the 2 middle posts and their lateral supports. Then install the lower/basement 2x6 wall I built. But am done for the day, and it's supposed to rain tonight...

People's Soviet Socialist Republic of California,
The view from the bluffs above my parents' place looking southeast down the Dinkey Creek drainage. The brown trees are from last year's Garnet Fire that burned within about two miles of their place. It's hard to see because of the shadows but there's one green spot in the sea of brown which is McKinley Grove where there are a bunch of giant sequoias. They were able to protect the grove through years of management (although not enough...) and active fire suppression efforts. It was very close though.

The fire stopped at control lines that were built along the boundary of Camp El-O-Win where a bunch of controlled burning and timber management treatments had been done over the past 20 years by the private land owners (the camp, SCE, and a few others) and the USFS.

Took the weekend mostly off to help the back recover some. But got right back at it this morning.

Got the rest of the posts removed. Stood the basement wall up and fastened it in place. Figured out joist placement. Then ripped all the floor and rim joists down to 11" as that is what the existing were. Threw those up and fastened them into place.

Ran to the store to get subflooring and sheathing materials. Then started laying the subfloor by gluing and screwing it into postion. No future squeaking to be had!

Tomorrow we should finish the subflooring and at least start on the upper wall.

Got the subflooring completed as much as possible. Don't want to finish it out until the interior wall is removed and I can replace under that too.

Built the upper 2x6 wall. Once again gluing and nailing the structure together. Removed the supports then lifted and pounded the wall into position. Got it glued and fastened in place.

Then covered it all up with a tarp as rainy weather is moving in.

Gotta say, having the extra space upstairs is gonna be awesome! And it will provide another angle of the great views our property has to offer.

Got the holes for the windows cut out. Waterproofed the windows sills. Installed 6 of the new windows. Then sealed them up with flashing tape. Just need to trim them out and add siding and the exterior section of this wall will be finished.

Next week we start on the small section of the west wall in the same area that needs the same treatment.

Dude, you have mad skills -- and you're FAST!
Thank you for the WAY too kind words. This project has been kicking my butt. You say fast, I say SLOW. My blew out my back again a couple weeks before I started on this. Been struggling to stand/walk/live, let alone bend, climb ladders, and lift heavy. So I am a few days behind schedule.
