At the #10 bar in Deadwood. Original location where Wild Bill got shot. Not, this is in the basement of the current #10 bar (there are two of them). Back in the early days of Deadwood, the town burned quite a few times. So they built on existing structures.

An Ige salute at the new #10 bar. Chase would drag us from here to go play craps at a casino just at the edge of town. We dragged Chase back to this bar.

A local band from Kansas. There dad played with them. This night was the warm up for the weekend and the Halloween festival for Deadwood.

Dont remember taking this pic, but it seems we had most of the dance floor in it. And that random lad kept on asking the group for a $20 after dancing with us. A big NO.

Deadwood the next morning. Was a bit slow going for us....

In Lead, SD. Just Above Deadwood. The Homestake Mine is the deepest open pit mine in the world. At the 4,000ft mark, a guy conducted science experiments with Neutrons. We let Daniel Linn nerd out here.

Evening sets in. After Mt. Rushmore, we set about to find camp in the area. Sadly it seemed, most of the trail were closed for the season. Finally, outside Custer, we found a campground open that was happy to have us.

I can't get much of page 2 pics to load, particularly the trail day getting stuck in the snow. Selecting the post itself (timestamp or post number) isn't working either. It just seems to reload the same images from other posts on the page. I wonder if the platform is running out of allocated memory trying to render all the uploaded pics.

Great Pics! (I did the right click, load, worked perfect, thanks dan)

Care package coming your way Perry. The local public library had a book sale/giveaway and I found a pile of great Outlaw Run reference material for you.

The Homestake was the deepest gold mine in the world but it's mostly under the surface. The open cut reached 1,100 feet and is about 1,000 feet wide. The deepest shaft achieved 8,000 feet, the Brookhaven Solar Neutrino Experiment was done in the Yates shaft I think, which is 4,850 feet deep from the head frame. It's an extensive mine without doubt.

Cross Section of Homestake.jpg

The largest pit mine in the world is easily Kennecott (Bingham Canyon) Copper Mine over in Utah. Trust me, it dwarfs the Homestake pit - 3,200 feet down from the surface and 2.5 miles wide.

Here's the two at the same scale, Homestake on the left, Keenecott on the right.
