ha.. not the gateway buckshots marco... those are blast from the past, tough bias tire for east coast muddin.

I said many many years ago wheelin mud and roots if doesn't say super swamper on the side it's just an mall terrain

I dumped the dura trac for cooper discoverer for as little trail time as our 100 sees.

Are the BFG's still running smaller than mfg advertised?

Andy, I have run the Duratrac's and although I never had a sideway puncture, I was VERY disappointed in the wear rate. I ran through half that tire in just about a year of every day driving and wheelin' when I could. That alone kept me from re-upping with the Duratracs. Granted I drove about 20k that year.

I went to the BFG KO2. And I can say they wear like iron, but I have found in the snow, they are not nearly as good as the Goodyears. I am desiring a Mud Terrain after a season up here in Montana, as there is a lot more water/mud/sand and less rock that we had in Colorado.

All that to say, if I was trying to pick from your options, I'd likely give the nod to the Coopers.

That said, I am likely going to go way out on a limb and try these next time I need a set of tires... Atturo M/T they've had amazing reviews and the prices can't be beat by anyone.

I have a friend who works at a les Schwab
He wheels Rovers pretty hard and he is trying to talk me into Maxxis
Apparently the new mud terrains are very good
I have always ran BFG for the most part with no issues but I’m pulling the trigger on a new set
33x10.5 x15 for my 60
And it’s between the BFG and the Maxxis
In the past I loved my Buckshot Mudders. They were at the top of the crawler food chain for quite a while! On my FJ-40 crawler now I run 40" Trepadores. Love them!

Two engineers going back and forth, where is the 🍿

LOL, I wasn't arguing with Dave at all. I was just surprised. Had someone asked me, "What is better in the snow and wet, a skinny tire, or a fat tire?" I would have responded with a skinny tire. So, I've learned something here, and thats a good thing.

Yes, by a little bit. The issue is that its hard to say because its wheel width and pressure dependent.

Ok, thanks. I'm looking to go to 315/75r16 on the 80 and from what I've read on other forums is that BFG's measure out to 33.5 inches tall. I'll probably stay with Coopers. The STT MAXX have been awesome for me.

Wow. Thats a lot of differnece. They should be 34.6. Mine aren't that bad. Supposed to be 32.8 or so, and I think new they were around 32.5 (from the ground, and 30psig), plus or minus.

It was on a Jeep forum, so take it with a grain of salt...LOL. If someone has BFG's here in the 315/75r16 flavor, maybe they can post up their measurement.

I'm really liking this new forum platform...

I got my Yokohoma Geolander MT's put on yesterday and they are sexy as hell. Got a decent deal at discount. $235.00 a tire for 315's plus they took $43.00 off the top if I bought the protection certificates.

That's an amazing price. What do they measure, Ray?

This is what my bosses tire looked like after it came apart. And my correction to my earlier post, it is a Cooper Discover MT.

Wow, I'll get a picture of my Goodyear Wrangler that came apart. FYI, You spoke about it on "the tire life" thread, not this thread.

That's the size I'm running. I just went outside and measured my drivers side rear on my 80 and they measure a little more than 33.5" but not more than 34." Damn, I thought they were over 34". I shouldn't have read this thread. :comp:

They measured close to 34.25 on the truck. Sure their closer to 34.5 or larger when not supporting weight.

After having extensively wheeled both the KO2 and STT PRO tires, I'll say the following.

The KO2's where fantastic in the snow on the road. (I currently run them on my '16 Tundra, and love them.) They were also very good off-road. I never had any issue with their sidewalls. It did seem that they spun a little more often when wheeling, compared to the STT PRO's. I have noticed they wear a little fast.

My 37" STT PRO's are AMAZEBALLZ off-road. I've run them at 5 PSI in the snow and never had any bead issues. I normally run them at 12 PSI for normal off-roading. Their side walls have taken a beating and never flinched. I've been very pleased with them. That being said, they're not great in snow/ice on the road, but are awesome in fresh powder.
You may have been asking about the MAXX's, I don't remember, but regardless I figure the PRO's and MAXX's are pretty close.

I'm not going to recommend one over the other. This is just my personal experience with the BFG's and Cooper's.

I've run a lot of tires over the years, mainly what I find on CL for the right price, but my favorite tire by far for all around use, snow, ice, blacktop, rocks is BFG's. They wear nice, there tough as nails, and they grip well off road. If I had to pick a down side to their tires it would be in the mud. The tread on most of their tires don't clean out the mud as well as I would like, but I'm talking about east coast style deep mud bogs wheeling. Most Colorado mud holes are not an issue and few and far between.
If your playing in the east coast mud I would recommend switching up to the KM2s or 3s. I loved my km2s back east! Alas... I think I will be switching to the ko2s for life in Colorado. The "mud holes" that my je** friends brag about all have hard bottoms and brown water and the km tread seems overkill.
