That looks like the Shimano Di2 like the new XT and XTR. You just shift up and down and the derailleurs adjust to find the best combination.

I have it on good authority that there's a Rising Sun'er with a 1x12 XX1 in the works...

Don't fear the front derailer. Think of it as a transfer case.

More like a Fairey overdrive. At one time it was the add-on to have but it's time is passed except for retro grouches doing restorations on a dwindling numbers of old clunkers.

Can't be a MB-0, it's lugged and not welded. The MB-0 was made in Taiwan and only Japanese Bridgestone bikes were lugged. My guess is MB-1 based on the little bit of decal showing and that it appears to have Ritchey cranks. The MB-2 would have likely had XT cranks.

Yeah it's not a Zip, an MB-1. Ritchey cranks.. my first Bridgestone was a MB-4, loved that bike. Bought this MB-1 and a smaller MB-3 from a nice couple at a Velo swap about 20 years ago. We sold the MB-3... will probably just keep this one forever. :)
