Jeff,
You were both missed and honored at this years event. Many many people asked me about you and offered you their support and kind words. Greg Luer did a very nice job on the mic outlining all you've done for the event all these years and thanking you on the stage which was very well received by the big crowd. The committee members and club members really stepped up BIG time to support you and this wonderful event.

I can't thank everyone enough for all they have done, it was a fantastic event and experience for all involved.

Thank you Jeff, Thank you Committee members, and Thank You Rising Sun!,

Wow, thanks so much Andy! And Greg! And the whole committee. I knew that you guys would step up and the event would go on without a hitch, with or without me. That's the essence of a good team, and you guys (committee and all of Rising Sun) are not just a good team but a great team.

And hats off to our fellow team mates from Wasatch who stepped up in a big way again this year! Kurt, Scott, Ace, Paul, Nate, Adam, you guys always come through and we really appreciate it!

Thanks also to our individual team mates like Jeremiah and Boyd!

This picture of Greg in Little Pepe should be used, somehow, to advertise next year's 20th Anniversary. Having been at the Rubithon 20th, it was impressive for me to see how excited and prepared the hosts were that year. Rising Sun can do it to with people like Greg sharing their enthusiasm with wheelers from around the world.

Ah man man looks like Sweede put her on it's side in that pot hole on Moab Rim. That's too bad. It's deep. I'm always worried about dropping in there when I'm leading a group thru that section. In fact I think I had most people bypass it last time.

Talked to Swede that evening and he and Judy were fine, as was his 40. Just a little entertainment for everyone as he was showing how to wash the undercarriage, North Dakota style. That is the Car Wash hot tub, right?

Looking at the pictures of buttscratcher (leaving either Gold Bar Rim, which we didn't do this year, or exiting Golden Spike, which we did), it looks around the same last time I did it. It is not an easy obstacle. Some years hugging the cliffside on the left is the best line up it, other years going up the right side is better, which looked to be the case this year.

In my 40, I always found that a bit (OK maybe a lot) of skinny pedal got me up that thing, typically middle line. In my HZJ75, I just kind of grunted up it, usually hugging the cliff side on the left. The right side line is steeper and harder, but less chance for body damage. Looks from the pictures that these folks opted for the latter.

Not sure if this will work, but here's a video of my 60 going up butt scratcher. It's also shared on the cruise moab facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/philip.gudlewski/videos/10153606887186616/

I was the third one up it. Mark took the left (Straight up) line and walked right up it. The all-pro tacoma on 42's took the middle right line over the rock and walked up it, I decided to follow him because it looked pretty good. Mark was having the first four trucks in the group get up the features so we could get out of the way for the rest of the group. Following Mark and the All-pro tacoma all day was "confidence inspiring" to say the least. Steve followed me most of the day and we were doing really well. I ended up hitting the perfect line and walking right up it will a little passenger tire wave when my driver rear sunk into the hole. Steve followed my line to a "T" and he had no issues what so ever. A couple people in the group tried to swing wide and take the left line and nobody was successful. From veterans of the trail, many said the hole was much deeper than it ever had been.... heard that a lot this year.

What did you break? Story?

Where was this shot...looks like Hell's?

That shot was Baby Lion's Back. I like going up there for photos every year. Amazing spot.

I broke the ring gear up front on Rose Garden. Long story, but we lost Chris (my gunner and spotter) the day before to a bad brake booster so there was no way he was coming down Rose Garden Hill with us. I didn't have anyone to spot me down the toughest section and my legs were not cooperating as well as I would have hoped. I couldn't power brake or use both feet and I was having a hard time using the brake to control the ATRAC. Just bad luck and a little too jumpy on the throttle when I got stuck. It was really hard for me to feel the pressure on pedal. I'm not nearly as graceful as I used to be.

As you would expect from a group of TLCA members, I was quickly pushed aside to ensure I wasn't doing any of the wrenching. All I had to do was give out some tips on how to get the 100 into 2wd. Consequently enough, another friend was the guy on the Spike run who broke on Butt Scratcher... so I was able to pay it back by helping him get into 2wd before heading back to Denver. (all I did was the cone washers, grease cap and give out some tips)

Of course I'm bummed to have a broken rig, but getting out on the trail under beautiful sunny skies with fantastic folks was exactly what I needed. Sometimes you break stuff, we all know how that goes. I care 10x's less about stuff like that than I used to. I led an amazing trail and got around pretty well for 7 days. Who cares about anything else?

Wow, cool stories. Didn't you have some issue with your 100 front diff in the past?

That photo is beyond excellent. Lighting, contrast, saturation, composition are all there, but to get that many people to simultaneously have good photogenic posture and expressions is really rare.
