Working on my meal plan for Kokopelli and saw reference to a potluck in years past. Anything thing that going to happen this year? I'm good either way. Just need to know if I need to buy an extra bag of Doritos...
Good question. Get ready for (hopefully) a good answer.
I generally aim for & encourage shareable foods & drinks that work well on-trail & in-camp. Some examples: hummus & guacamole cups, baby carrots, baby peppers, grapes, oranges, jerky, dried apricots & dates, and bottled water. They're all available at Costco. Little-to-no prep necessary. They keep alright with relatively good nutritional value, while also eatable when driving and hoping out to spot the trail. Also they work nicely if there's a thirsty/hungry mountain biker(s) or ultrarunner(s) on trail. The major down side I find is they're not super palatable like nicely cooked/prepped foods.
All that to say: yes, please definitely bring some extra food, Doritos included, if that's feasible & reasonable for you. I find it's great for breaking the ice and a good time. As long as I bring enough for myself and some amount extra, then it works out good.
We will have several bonfires on the Kokopelli (please remember to bring some wood for the second night at Roberts Bottom camp), and the bonfires are always a good time to relax, hangout, share foods, and stories.
Also to be clear, please don't feel obligated either. The above is my approach/philosophy. If you can't/won't, that's cool and don't. If you can/want to, then feel free to bring whatever your heart wishes to share. I hope that makes sense.
I intend my approach to be flexible & chill as possible, and only as rigid as necessary
