It works on bee stings, works for alcohol overdose, worked on a snake bite in this case. I always carry it. Its wont send a signal for help, but it may save your limb while your waiting.

In the toxicology literature we are becoming more and more aware of the risks of and limited benefits of activated charcoal. If you want to rub it on a bee sting, have at it, but I'd highly recommend against using it for someone who has ingested too much alcohol. The main problem with activated charcoal is that it is a huge risk when aspirated. If someone is drowsy (too much alcohol) and they vomit after you've given them activated charcoal, they are likely to end up getting activated charcoal in their lungs. That is very likely to be lethal. It is also very unlikely to lessen the severity of symptoms from alcohol ingestion as alcohol is a liquid, is quickly absorbed, and binds poorly to activated charcoal.

Also a bit off subject as it turned to devices but

Snakes can still bite and transfer venom hours after they are dead

They have a crazy reflex system so if you see a dead snake or come across one..., beware they can still bite
Do NOT touch
They can even bite after the head has been removed

I believe 4 or 5 hours after they die it is possible for a bite to happen

FWIW, this rescue happened recently in Oregon. A fairly well known cyclist named Tomas Quinones came across a dying man stranded some days prior when his Jeep got stuck. The man began walking out and made it 14 miles before collapsing. Quinones had a one-way SPOT Gen 3 beacon and the SOS response took about 2 hours to get to his location.

Saw this on the news the other night. A hiker tumbled about 150 feet and was injured, but he used a SPOT to call for help and was rescued within 4 hours. He says even though it worked, he would have much rather been able to have 2 way communication and will upgrade his device to an Inreach. Pretty cool to see it get used properly and have the system work properly. He carried it for 9 years before using it, and I’m sure he was glad he did earlier this week.
