This thread is awesome! Brings back some memories…my current moonglow 80 was there nearly 20 years ago after meeting Ige the previous year in Commerce City.

@cruiseroutfit - Kurt, what was the date on that issue of Toyota Trails? I'm guessing late 1995 / early 1996?

Yup. Jan/Feb of 1996. The CM history site says Nov/Dec 1995 but I couldn’t find any mention in that one. To throw things off a bit. The cover of the Jan/Feb 1996 was a typo and said “Jan/Feb 1995” but if you open the cover, you’ll see that isn’t the case in it’s the 1996 version.

Fun history!

The Zebrinator!

I think it was Rainey Kirk who won that raffle 40 in the 1990s, but a member of Lone Star bought it later. I was leading fins (I think it was like, 2001 maybe?) and the guy couldn't get up that first sandy hill. I tried spotting him and he was still struggling. I got in and rode shotgun. I noticed he was still in 2WD. We put it in 4WD and he made it right up. He made me promise not to tell his companions ;)

it was rainey that was auctioning it off and josh baker won it. i was at gsmtr that year with my "keychain" (each keychain sold got you a entry) hoping to win :( iirc, it was 1996. rainey moved on to a mini truck via of marlin.

Okay so I got the players right, just wrong order. I remember reading about the keychain thing and the raffle in Toyota Trails at the time, and thought it was cool to lead/spot/ride in such a famous rig.

@nuclearlemon Theres a red 4runner in those old photos that is still going to CM. Is it the longest attending single vehicle?

Here is the shirt I did for that run. I was contacted by Al Roth to do the design and print the shirts. The type as you see it here, I don't think was on it. It's been awhile. Funny story about this job, The front print read something like, UNOFFICIAL CRUISE MOAB RUN + TLCA was in there some whare. I miss spelled UNOFFICIAL, I wrote UNOFFICAL. Also TLCA had nothing to do with it, and I got yelled at by TLCA for putting it on there.
The design is a watercolor, using a photo shot by Karr Patson from the Marauders club. I made-up the background, and the cruiser is one of the marauders members whos name I don't remember.

Justin, I'm not Ige but you're likely referring to Greg Luer's red 1985 4Runner (that he bought new!). He's been going every year since the very first one, and was on the original committee.

or he is talking about his own truck, the Red Chile. Greg hasnt brought the 4runner every year, but I believe the Red Chile has been there every year a Morgan has. Just a guess on his meaning.

Ken I think you're right. I went back and looked more closely to Ige's magazine scans and that does look like the Red Chili. It has larger tires than Gregs, distinctive alloy wheels and I believe Greg's has an ARB front bumper, whereas Bill made his own. I wanna say Bill's was a SASed 1987. They both had can-backs, but I think Gregs is tan and Bill's was black.
