Handing out free BBQ this weekend

Hey all. It is too depressing watching the images of hungry people who have had their SNAP benefits revoked or have been out of work for over a month due to the govt shutdown (or even worse, they are still working without a paycheck!) I used to have a bbq food truck and catering business. I still have my smoker and tons of equipment, etc. I am planning on smoking up 8-10 pork butts and then handing out sandwiches wherever I can find hungry needy people. I have a thread on the denver subreddit, a lot of people are interested in helping! We will prob need help handing out food, buying water, etc. I am talking to a couple of local organizations who help with stuff like this, and also checking in with the food truck community so see if we can setup somewhere this weekend in a parking lot somewhere and feed some people. Let me know if you want to help, or if you want some free BBQ!!!!

Does anyone have a traeger or any other pellet smoker like that I could borrow? I am getting a ton of responses online and maybe even some free pork butts. I want to be able to smoke everything I can get, so the more smokers, the better! If only my huge double plus sized traeger smoker was not stolen......

great idea! I just bought 2 cases of butts I guarantee and will post up receipts, any donations will be used for supplies or donated directly to a food bank. Thanks for the good idea and desire to help!

Hello all, my first night at the MAM (Mutual Aid Monday) was both fabulous and frustratingly sad. fabulous to see all the wonderful volunteers and companies who have donated, but sad that this is necessary in freaking 2025. Anyway.

I will be doing this again a couple times a month. If you can come help around 4 on Monday nights at the civic center, hit me up! I can get you the deets. If you can donate even a couple of bucks to my venmo listed above, I will use 100 percent of that to buy pork butts and buns etc and will post up receipts to show all money is going to feed the needy. I had a very generous donation last time that bought 2 full butts and buns which made over 70 sammies to hand out. THANK YOU for that! MAM is a great organization completely run by volunteers and relies solely on donations to help ones in need. Anything helps, even an old coat to donate or an hour of your time handing out food or clothing or helping with the other areas at the event. We fed over 400 people last week! Thanks to all for your support!!
