Is this event open to joining up just for the trail day Saturday? I might or might not be able to camp. I am a newbie to rising sun (but not inexperienced) and looking to do a fun trail run. Also to finish up my membership requirements. I ran longwater and mitberry just last weekend but i would like to run hacket too.

Yeah man! Come on out! The trail head is close enough for most folks that it's not really necessary to camp. I just like having an excuse to sleep in the woods. :thumb:

Plan on being at the Hackett trailhead by 8 a.m. We'll do that one first and go to Longwater after that. I'd really like to get Metberry that same day as well but we'll see how the first two go.

We were on the opposite side of the Forrest this morning. It was a 2 hour drive to the area you wanted to camp in and we didn’t have time. Lots of places to camp while we were driving.

@Mendocino and I were able to find some good camping spots so I've updated the original post with that information.

Man I wonder how high the water is near Hackett.
I was wondering that myself. I thought about running at least that much of the trail to see but the main objective this weekend was recon for a camping spot. Also, I imagine it will change one way or another over the next 2 weeks so it probably would have been moot. (Although I am hoping the change isn't an increase in height )

All of the recent reviews I've read said it's passable so hopefully it stays that way.

I unfortunately need to cancel on this trip. I've got family coming in on short notice.

Next time!

Thanks for organizing. Take lots of pictures!

Hey @Stuckinthe80s, I don't think the water crossings will be an issue, as it looks like both Hackett and Longwater trails legally end at the county line before the river.

Check the Trails Off-Road pages for Hackett and Longwater for more info - not sure if this has changed recently or not. Just a head's up.

I talked with someone from the national Forrest service at the RSG open house and they said all of the trails are on Avenza now supposably.

Things are shaping up well for me to still make this. I think the wife and kiddo will be coming too. Also my buddy who is not RS but does drive a pretty sweet 2nd gen taco sounds like he is down as well. I think we will try to roll down friday evening after work to the camp spot.

Unfortunately, I need to back out of the trip this weekend. The starter on my 100 is starting to go out, and I'd rather it not sh*t the bed on the trail. Thus, I will likely spend Saturday replacing it. :(

Hope you guys have a blast, though!

It's looking like we might get some rain on Saturday and it's going to dip into the high 30's at night so bring your rain gear and stuff to stay warm! I'll be bringing a 10'x10' pop up canopy and a big tarp. If anybody else has the same thing it will be much appreciated if you bring it.

Hopefully the weather forecast improves between now and then so fingers crossed!

Frequency? 146.460?

Truck is all geared up and ready to go, but the Katie and Harry are bailing due to weather. I plan to roll out of Denver between 3:30-6 tomorrow and head to camp with my buddy Scott. I have a 10x10 canopy that I will bring, but hopefully not have to deploy. Although a little rain might make these trails a bit more interesting.

The frequency is likely 147.420. There is SpaceNet One interference on 146.460.
