This is a total bummer. unbelievable what a few bad apples can do...with slugs and a suitcase of cheap beer. Guess Ill just have to go up there one last time with the crew for old times sake. Ill be there any night at any time this weekend. Was looking to get a run in this weekend anyway.

Brownie Points

Wanna make some brownie points with the Jamestown area?

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Greetings,

Would you like to help revitalize a natural area devastated by wildfire, while
protecting Jamestown from mud slides? Join Wildlands Restoration Volunteers
for a special mid-week project to stabilize acres of bare slopes above Jamestown
by applying straw mulch. This is a great opportunity for corporate groups, students
and anyone interested in taking a break from the office.

***We still need 10 volunteers to make this project a success! Please share
this message with others that might be interested in restoration.***

OVERVIEW
Date: Tuesday, June 6
Description: In October, 2003, nearly 4000 acres of foothills land burned in
a fast moving high intensity fire. Portions of the burn area have been restored
by a wide range of partners, including the US Forest Service, WRV, and the James
Creek Watershed Initiative (JCWI). However, a torrent of mud and debris has
flooded down from a gulch above Jamestown during major summer storms the past
two years. In 2006, WRV will collaborate with JCWI once again, and with Fire
Break Tree Services. Volunteers will spread straw mulch on acres of hillside
above town to stabilize slopes and promote water absorption into the soil. WRV
has been working with JCWI for six years, completing nearly ten projects to restore
the James Creek watershed. Number of Volunteers: 50. Min. Age: 12 with an
adult.

SPREAD THE WORD!
We find most of our volunteers through word of mouth, so please spread the word
and invite friends, family, and colleagues.

We hope to see you in Jamestown on June 6th!

I think I'm in if the :Princess: is up for it. We have done that trail many times in the evening and cooked dinner on top and enjoyed the night time view.:thumb:

On the WRV post (Thanks, Kevin!): they still need trucks to haul straw as of last night at least.

Well, t'was a swell run. No gate as of 5/26/06, you can see where the gate is going to be, way at the bottom near the wooden fence, but there was no gate present at all. Had a good group, 5 trucks: Myself, Uncle Ben, Seldon Seen, El Flaco, & Ric. 60wag drove my truck the whole way up, I drove back. Road was a lot like last fall, not much has happened up there.. the big rock in the middle of the last obstacle before the overlook has been pushed down a little more, someone created a fire pit in the saddle area where Nugget hill intersects, that's about it. In fact, we couldn't see any activity at all in any of the mine sites either. Guess the gate comes first...
