yeah, that is sad...i was sorely disapointed when i got up there and found it graded smooth a couple of months ago...i called up the FS and found out all the info in that article. That's really no fun.

the article says the gate is going up "in the next week.." anyone know if it's up yet? Do we need to call an emergency night run?

Yes, it is sad, but perfectly understandable. Bullet holes in $30,000 compressors would piss me off too. As Ige stated in Mike's mailbox post, "People suck!" and I agree. What is the mentality of someone with a gun deciding that something needs holes in it? Seriously, I'd like to hear some of the knowledgeable gun owners here on the list discuss it some. I couldn't believe my eyes when we stopped at Newspaper Rock on the last Saturday of Cruise Moab this year. There were numerous new bullet holes in the rock and it was obvious people were shooting at the deer and water symbols that look like bullseyes. Totally idiotic and comparing this year's pictures with those we took in 2003 it was clear they were all new in the last three years. Creating trail closures by wheeling irresponsibly is one thing but shooting holes in history is unfathomable to me.

Posts for gate have been set up. Private property owners have no
interest in an easement. Forest Service is blocked from fuels
treatment work.

8) National Forest Funding - Roz
Proposal to increase Colorado recreation funding for forests, $2.5
million. Delegations in Colorado House and Senate have signed.
Continuing work. BRC has posted alerts about recreation funding reduction.

9) Overland Fire Closure -
Field trip to area in early June, maybe a Friday afternoon.

10) Lefthand Cleanup - Adam
To be May 7th, 9:00am. Volunteer agreement complete. After Cleanup TRR
will weld map dispensers to kiosks. Need to follow safe practice for
welding and dry fuels in area.

11) Urban Front Country EA -
District wide regulation of shooting and camping. Scoping meetings are
May 6, 11, 17. Location being firmed up.

12) Middle St. Vrain - Greg/Adam
Projects may be reduction of signs at Coney entrance, repair gate at
Coney entrance, remove second duplicate route on Coney Flats.
Replacement signs on hold until end of summer.

Crap, I'll be in Texas. Seems like everytime there's a Gillespie run, I'm in another country.
