How about a little field trip to American Web to watch the Toyota Trails being printed? This issue should be printed the week of June 19. It'll be the issue with the Cruise Moab article in it. We'll get more particulars about the exact date & time. Todd would love to have us take some good pics and write up a story for Trails.

Here's the address:

SEE ADDRESS BELOW!!!

Who would like to go? And who would like to contribute pics and a story?

I'll try and call and pin down a date. Unfortunately, I will be out of town that week.

From Jim Rossi at American Web:

Hi Chris,

We would enjoy the visit! Clarke Fine, our VP of sales, will likely be
the one doing most of the touring but I will be here also and we can
have a grand time at the Web. The schedule will be based on when the job
is received. We are expecting to receive files on the 14th of June
putting it on press sometime the week of the 19th. Of course this is
tentative on the arrival of files but we are usually pretty close to the
expected in date for Trails. But if you want to make printing a specific
day (or two) we can do that it may just add some time to the production
schedule of the book. Please let me know what you think, meanwhile hope
to see you then!

Jim

When I was Commander I tried numerous times to organize a field trip down there to witness printing. Two problems I encountered were that they never knew the actual date in advance, and they didn't call me back once they knew what it was.

Hopefully it will work out. I'm just bummed that I won't be here. I'll be in the CA wine country seeing how many vineyards I can visit in three days. :p:

UPDATE: This has been moved up to TOMORROW (Thursday) MORNING. They are shooting for 9 a.m. I'll be calling Jim at 7 a.m. tomorrow to get an exact time, and will update everyone then.

FYI, this is typical for printers. Their schedules are always in flux, because some jobs take longer than anticipated, etc.

I think we're still on for 9:00. I just left Jim Rossi a message (he's our contact at American Web).

Looks like 9:30 is the time. This will probably be my last post until after the tour. If you're coming, see you there!

It was pretty cool the see the cover being processed. The pages were still waiting for press since the are on another machine and it was behing an hour and a half. We did see the proof..

Anyway, It was a really neat experience. Thanks!

We had four of us:
Wes Worek
Jeff Zepp
Dave Armbruster
Matt Farr

It was cool to see the mass amounts of machinery that is used to manufacture Toyota Trails. They gave us the grand tour and spent quite a bit of time showing us the whole facility.

...and everyone in the Rising Sun will love the cover of the next issue!
