@Nate So pre-75 t-cases had a 25mm idler shaft? Asking for reasons (kind of looking for a 40).

It sure does look that way. The post above that has the micrometer showing 25mm on the idler shaft was from the new kit. Just looks like the vendor I used for it didn't have all the information. I ordered part number TC7580 from cruiserteq.com today. It shows 1/75 - 7/80. Part TC7375 shows 9/73 - 4/75.

The new kit should be here Friday. I'll put he micrometer to the idler shaft when it gets here and follow up.

I have a few emails out to see if there is shop that can do the rebuild. If they seem hesitant, I will definitely want to borrow it. Thanks a million!

ah, I love builds like this. Your garage is very similar to mine. Cruiser parts, Deer antlers, Bicycles, wife creepin in...

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the powder coating of the chassis cost? It looks amazing.

I spent a lot of time on the phone with Johnny from Cursiers & Company up Erie. I'm gonna work with him on tranny. Thanks for getting back though.

...back to the regularly scheduled programming. After rebuilding the front axles and hubs, I replaced the calipers and put new pads in. I also added fresh brake lines from SOR.

I did not grab many photos, but I cleaned up and refinished the bell housing, and installed all new ball joints a new tie rod and a relay rod. They were bent pretty badly. It looked like a recovery strap or chain was wrapped around them and yanked pretty hard at some point.

In September I got the engine back from Gunn. It looked amazing. You may recall, if you've been following along that I dropped it off to them in February. Most of the delay was waiting on parts.

When I took it in we figured out the block was already bored 50 over and by this point, I was settled on trying to keep this cruiser as near to stock as possible. More resto than mod so to speak. The cylinders were in pretty rough shape as you can imagine from the photos earlier. I reached out to WiseCo and connected them with Gunn. They traded specs, I mailed them an old piston and WiseCo made six new pistons. That wait took most of the seven months. Once they came in, I dropped them off at Gunn's and they got to work.

We were making pretty good progress until they got to Rocker Rod. It was scored beyond use. I was able to negotiate with some fella on eBay and got one complete rod. Out of the two Gunn was able to build one good one. They are not easy to find. But, hey we were good to go.

Of course, that could not be all the drama. The last issue that came up was the piston rods. The old ones would not balance. Found a local guy here on the south side that had a set of 6 from the same engine. (He mentioned he was an RS member many moons ago but is not now. He has a beautiful 1976? 40 in his driveway and a hell of a parts list if anyone is interested, may be on Craig's list too.)

From there Gunn was able to get everything totally balanced and ready to go out the door. Solid work by those guys. I spent enough that they threw in some assembly lube 😂

And, with this post, I'll be current as of today, pretty much. The photos will pretty much speak for themselves, but I followed the FSM and some more YouTube (I've never built an engine) and got to work, slowly, on assembly.

It is still on the stand right now, so if you see something wrong let me know.

Johnny did mention the oil galley plug today. From what I can see it is impossible to see it, so it has definitely not been drilled and tapped.

As of tonight, I am trying to sort out the wiring on the new Toyota OEM distributed. I am going to have to unpin the old connector and pin it into the new distributor. The shafts also look different so I need to sort that out too. Thanks to @60wag I'll be able to rebuild the transfer case this coming month, so that is a huge deal to avoid dropping the money for the transfer case from Advanced Adapters. I'll end up taking a day off work and head to Erie for the tranny rebuild. Sounds like they're willing to let me apprentice on my rebuild, and it gives them an opportunity to build a bearing puller hand have available in their shop. Happy to support the Cuiser industry here at home.

I'm not a member of RS yet but will fill out the application and bring it to a meeting. I appreciate all the tips and feedback. It's a lot of work but has been a blast, and making this thread has been a motivator. I'll update as I get more done.

One last thing for tonight. It will be time for bodywork soon, and I am not comfortable taking on sheet metal welding. I flux core only wleder and I know it will put too much heat. I also don't have the tools to form parts. Any recommendations for a good body and paint shop?

I was waiting on the domed pistons update because they’re unobtainable

So if I got this right
I gather you bought custom wiseco domed pistons?
Did Gunn assemble the short block for you or you did it?

That is exactly right, Wiseco custom-milled the domed pistons based on the measurements from Gunn and the piston I mailed to them. I did the short block assembly. Gunn did the valve assembly on the head.

@Nate Gunn was able to get the main bearings for you? I know @rckhound was having trouble with that not too long ago, but I think he got some from the Middle East.

Asking because I have a spare 2F for my 60 torn down and need to get the block to Gunn at some point in the coming months.

Some good threads:

and

and

Also @60wag.

Got the kit from Cruiser Teq today. The idler shaft is 25mm. 20231130_191003.jpg
I spent some time in the mud forum above and want your opinions.

I think I may somehow have a non-US spec transfer case.

Yeah, this is definitely a non-USA transfer case.

Does anyone have an idea on where to source non-USA parts? Or am I going down the Orion t-case path?
