Dad and I headed back out on the one dirt road leading from Chaco. If you head South enough, you'd end up at Guadelope, NM. An apparent trade center for Turquoise in the Chacoan world. We were just hopping for a nice spot to enjoy the sunset that evening. Fajada Butte in the distance.

I was happy to be on dirt, and Dad, happy to be out walking.

Wow...wow...WOW! Amazing pictures. I will be researching that area and the history. Can't believe the building construction and its' ability to stand the forces of nature and people. The stone work is jaw dropping

Nice, those photos bring back some memories of when I visited the area a few years ago. At least you guys didn't get caught in a dust storm judging by the photos.

Did the rangers mention why Kin Bineola or Kin Ya'a have been closed to to the public? Those area where open during my visit.

It's pretty amazing walking around the ruins, knowing how old they are. And the work that went into them.

They did not. We mainly focused on "downtown" Chaco. So didn't think to ask about the outlying communities.

South Mesa and Wijiji.

Took a morning drive. Dad went for a bike ride. If I kept south, I would have ended up in Guadelupe. An apparent trade center of turquoise for the Chacoans.

Some fine views of Chaco from South Mesa. Dad and I stopped (he made me stop) a lot to watch the light dance around the mesa.

Our camp for the last few days. The only place (established) allowed in the park. I'd sleep in the back of the runner while dad pitched a tent at one of the sites behind the truck.

Wijiji. Chacoan Great House. A.D 1100-1150. With some 100 rooms, was the last Great House to be constructed in Chaco Canyon.
