Yes I did. The new michleans on the runner has 3made in the last year, one is 2.5 years old and the other is 3.2 years old. I am thinking of writing Michlean about this, then discount's manager in Boulder.
When I bought the Generals last spring for the cruiser, I did not look. But today, all 4 tires are made with 3 months of each other, thee made in the same month.

x2...But how do you know if a tire was made in the 90's or the '00's? At one point in the story, IIRC, they showed what they claimed was a 12 yr old tire made in '96. How does a person know is the xx6 indicates a 1996 date or a 2006 date? More importantly, if I were to go out and buy tires today, how would I know I'm getting a tire made 2008 and not 1998

Everyone got out and check their tires now

The DOT is either 11 numbers or 12 numbers. If there are 3 numbers at the end 126, that means it was made in the 12th week of 1996. If there are 4 numbers 1206, that means it was made the 12th week of 2006.

I thought exactly the same thing as Powerderpig when I saw the picture of the 2 piece tire.
(For split rims maybe? *joking*)

Also, I noticed there isn't much tread left on that MT. It's a well used old tire.

IS THAT A BULGE IN YOUR TIRE OR YOU HAPPY TO SEE HER

Just checked mine. 2406 on all 4 of them. I need to check the wifes when I got home as we just bought hers a few months ago.

I'm really anal about tires. If they are at half tread, they are gone. Always check tire pressure and that. Guess I got it from my dad. he manages a trucking company...so tires are quite the $$$ venture for him.

Agreed, Tonka you're definitely pushing the limits here... reel it in a little please. We appreciate the tire discussion though..

The argument that my BFG's were on backorder last year is apparantly true... they were all 4 stamped as being made about a month before I bought them...

So any how I went into Discount today to ask about what the policy on how old a tire they sell. I had a real nice young man named Nick help me. According to Nick, it was a DOT standard of 10 years for tire replacement. He could not produce this in written form for me. He did hand me a guide from Discount Tire that showed me the warranty period for each of the major manufactures they sell. Most only warranty the tires for 6 years from the date of tire manufacture(not when the tire is sold). All the best car companies recommend tire replacement at 6 years. Most tire manufactures recommend tire replacement at 10 years.
So the outcome for me, I get the two older tires replaced free with the tires they have in stock that are made in the last couple of months. Nick appoligized for the mistake on the part of Discount not makeing sure the tires were current. He thinks Michelin will take the tires back. I have a appointment to get the new tires on the 4/runner on monday.

Thanks :thumb: - I must have missed that fact in the video or they left that tidbit of information out...

I had the same thought when looking at the picture of the SSR. But it looks like the "bulge" ripped off part of the front bumper as well :hill:

Photoshop or not, at least I learned about the date code. I doubt my Toyos are old (forgot to check last night ) but I'm not sure about my MTRs on the 40 or the Dunflops on my :Princess:'s 80.

I didn't know about the date thing. The tires on my Scout are about 15 years old. My Wranglers and Hankooks are all less than 2 years old. All made the same week for each set. Kinda cool.

I could tell on that one, the tread is stretched on the bottom left

Okay, since I bought new tires I somewhat apologize for bringing this thread back up but it got me checking my tires (and my spare).

My spare says:
DOT EURE 1K8171

My new tires say:
DOT K4KENX71

Now I'm really confused, can anybody help?
