Hey douglas! The through-the-frame bushings are bigger by comparison. 90% of kits used the same size bushing frame tube. Call Marlin or TG if there is any doubt and I guarantee they will point you in the right direction of bushing. If I remember correctly, the front shackle hanger bushings are considerably larger.

Current to-do list

I have a growing to-do list again for my truck so I thought I'd write it down here to help me remember...

  • Fix front drive shaft - twisted off a flange on one end so I'm down to three bolts holding the drive shaft to the transfer case. Also the drive shaft rattles and is unbalanced. Going to talk with the Engelwood Drifeshaft guys to see what can be done.
  • Surging idle and sticky throttle - Need to pop the throttle off the truck and clean it and the idle air control valve. Waiting for a gasket to arrive to do this. - turns out that the coolant temp sensor wire was broken. - also turns out that there was a rubber piece that was interfering with the throttle cable!
  • Coolant hoses to IAC - Need to replace these. Will do it at the same time as cleaning out the throttle body and IAC.
  • O-ring on water pipe - Need this part number: 96711-24017 and then need to liberate that water pipe to replace that o-ring. It isn't leaking but it will be the only piece of rubber I haven't replaced in the coolant system.
  • Auxiliary electrical issues - I had some strange electrical issues suddenly happen while going through Devil's Punchbowl below Schofield pass last weekend. I think I lost a diode in my wiring. Doesn't impact the truck's drivability but makes some of my accessories non-functional.
  • Squealing belts - Need to tighten up a couple belts now that I have a thousand miles on them since replacing them in August. Also need to verify that the alternator is good and tight. I can see it vibrating a bit when the truck is idling and I'm airing up tires.
  • Exhaust leak - Need to get a new muffler welded on the truck and the muffler tip needs to exit somewhere that it won't be prone to sucking exhaust back into the truck. Also need new hangers. I have a quote from a local place, just haven't had the time/money line up to do it yet. - I think I fixed it myself for at least the next couple months. Saving money for other things...
  • Air compressor mounting - Need a better solution for the air compressor mounting. Currently it's zip tied in which seems to be holding up well but that's not a real long-term solution.
  • Rear window motor - When I have to put back on the hard top in the next month, I'm going to need to replace the rear window motor and grease the glass tracks. It's very lethargic now. I have a spare motor, just need to put it in.
  • Steering - I need to figure out how to get rid of some of the dead space in the steering. It's about 30 degrees of free play at highway speed. I've rebuilt the entire front end now so I think either it's the tires or there's an adjustment on the steering box?
  • Alignment - I think I still need to bring the toe in a bit more.
  • Steering wheel - Need to re-orient the steering wheel. It's upside-down currently.
  • Reverse light - need to track down why I don't have reverse lights. Could be the sensor in the t-case or maybe somewhere in the wiring. - both bulbs were burned out
  • Tire balanced - Need the tires balanced again.
  • Heater valve - need to replace it. I have the replacement part.
  • Wind noise on right side - I'm getting wind noise somewhere on the right side but I'm not sure from where. Doesn't seem to be from the roof rack. Need to do more investigation.
  • Relocate radio antenna - I need to relocate the radio antenna. I used to have the radio tapped into the CB antenna but it was giving me interference on the CB. The stock radio antenna location is no good for :Princess:
  • Change clutch fluid - It's looking kind of gross. No idea when it was last done.
  • Change brake fluid - Also looking pretty gnar gnar.
  • Flip headlight orientation - The headlights are upside down!!! Also they're so anemic that I really need to upgrade them to something modern. With winter on the way, I should do this soon-ish. - ponied up the money for some Hella headlight housings that take H4 bulbs. HELLO LIGHT.
  • Investigate clicking relay sound near passenger footwell - Probably it's the fuel pump relay. No symptoms manifest so far. Just the clicking noise very occasionally.
  • Adjust the amplifier for more bass from the stereo - Requires removing the driver seat.
  • Adjust the passenger window crank arm orientation - :Princess: can't put the window all the way down without the crank being in an annoying position for her leg.
  • New CB antenna and spring - I lost the old CB antenna twice last weekend and also broke it. The threads on the antenna stripped out. I think the antenna is somewhere above Aspen now... The spring is too weak to keep a 5 foot tall antenna from whipping all over the place. Dunno if there are any heavier duty springs available. Maybe if I sheathed the bottom of the new antenna and its spring in some rubber hose to help cushion things? Need to decide what new antenna I want to get... I like the looks of the Firestik 5 foot antenna but it is a bit absurd :D
  • Engine oil change - I'm due.
  • Rear diff oil change - Already did the front diff, transmission, and t-cases. Time to do the rear, too. Then everything will be on the same cycle.
  • Put FM antenna on a spring mount - sheared it off on some overhanging branches a few weeks ago.
  • Rattling noise - In the engine area. Could be low oil. Need to figure it out. Pretty sure it's not the timing chain because it's only when decelerating with the transmission engaged.
  • Wash truck - This is my absolute last priority. :D

I'm also keeping a list of upgrades that I want/need to do in the future. Feel free to laugh at some of the things on this list :D
  • Mount for front winch - I have the winch and I have a plate. Need help welding it on. Need to get off my butt and arrange it. - Sweet new winch in place!
  • Heavy duty 63" Chevy leaf springs - Currently have some other custom springs on the truck. They're nearly flat and don't give as much flex as a set of 63" springs would. I have the hangers to weld on and some 3+1 Chevy springs to at least test fit. I realize that I should probably be running 4+1 or 5+1 springs with the other things I have planned.
  • Rear air bags - For all the weight I keep putting in the bed when we go camping. Last weekend I was almost inverting the springs just driving on asphalt.
  • Rear bumper tire swing-out - I know it's better for weight distribution to keep the spare tire in the bed but it is SUPER inconvenient for camping. I'm willing to take the weight redistribution hit on this one. Also want dual NATO can holder and propane tank holder on the rear. I don't like having a bunch of flammable stuff in the cab with me.
  • Fender flares and mud flaps - I need to make this truck California and Oregon-legal. Looking at the Bushwacker flares and the replacement quarter panels from Toyota Fiberglass (Canadian company). Also looking at kiddie pools from Wally World. Might get some custom mud flaps with albino rhinos on them
  • 5 gallon air tank - Compressed air storage for using air tools for trail repairs. Need to investigate getting a second compressor that will go high enough PSI to make it worthwhile. Also want an in-cab air pressure gauge to make sure my compressors are working correctly.
  • Truck or train air horn - :Princess: wants the Albino Rhino to have a much louder horn so she can vent her frustrations more easily when we're in traffic. I'm kinda scared with how much she wants it!
  • Onboard welder - For trail repairs. I have the alternator to support one now. Will need a throttle control cable to increase idle. - I have supplies to do stick welding in a pinch now.
  • Dual batteries - One battery for house loads and one for running the truck. I'm currently running with a jumper battery pack that has worked well the couple times I've run my truck battery dead but long-term I want something that can run my fridge overnight without fear. Also want a small solar charger setup to keep it juiced up.
  • Shield for LED light bar - I get too much light wash on my hood and windshield that it makes it hard to see some times. Also I want to mount a couple additional LED lights that throw light off to the sides at 45 degree angles. It's a bit of a dead spot in my lighting configuration at the moment.
  • CB and Ham radio external speakers - Can't hear well enough while driving on the CB and Ham. I need some external speakers in the cab.
  • Hi-Lift emergency first responder upgrade kit - So I can pry apart truck cabs if needed... because reasons?
  • Slide-out cargo storage - I need this badly. Sucks packing and unpacking the whole bed to get something out. Also want to take off the rear factory paneling and install better access there. Currently have a bunch of spares and fluids stored in the panels that would be nice to have easier access to.
  • Spare tire well fluids storage - Either water or gasoline storage. It's such a large, dead space that could be useful! And it would help lower the center of gravity a bit.
  • Exo cage - Not something crazy but something that will protect the cab and the body work. Also I can mount my roof rack to it rather than having the jankity cross-rails and gutter mounts.
  • Pull pal anchor - For when I get myself stuck when I'm alone and need to self-recover where there isn't a tree nearby. Yes, I know I should only travel in packs.
  • Winch cable extension - For when I need to winch a really, really long way.
  • Mounting for my aunt's sand ladders - My aunt is long-term loaning me her sand ladders that she had made custom when she was living in Egypt. I'm thinking I want to mount them externally along the rear quarter panels on the to-be-built exo cage. Also want some bridging ladders eventually...
  • Car alarm with remote start - The remote start is actually so I can turn all of the LED lights on from the tent when something goes bump in the night and :Princess: is scared but I don't want to get out of my warm sleeping bag.
  • APRS tracker - Like lo-jack but works in more locations.
  • Pizza oven for my grill - Yes, I'm serious. Who doesn't want to make pizza while camping?!
  • Fridge temp monitor - I turned the guac to ice last weekend. Whoops!
  • Additional power ports - Turns out :Princess: has her own car fridge stored somewhere in our place that she didn't tell me about. Now we can have one fridge for food and one for
  • Truck footwell lighting - So we can see when we get into the truck at night. Also should replace the dome light with something brighter.
  • Bed lighting - So I can see what I'm searching for in the bed of the truck at night. I spent so much time adding lights to the outside that I never bothered adding lights to the inside!
  • 45 degree angle lights to augment light bar - Need some light up front and out to the sides.
  • Adjust light bar to have less glare on the windshield - or maybe a shield? It's annoying when the windshield is dirty.
  • New switch panel - Travis is right... my Home Depot solution to switch panels is not cutting it in the looks department
  • Vacuum tank - Extra vacuum reservoir for my brakes. Also a vacuum pressure gauge in the cab
  • Tachometer - Don't think I'm going to go the SR5 gauge cluster route so I need to get a tachometer on my dash some other way.
  • Hot water heater - for a shower or hot tub. I can tap the rear heater line that isn't used on my truck like what Roger Brown did on his. #hottubtrucktimemachine
  • Rhino horn - Need a rhino horn mounted to the hood... because reasons.
  • 3.4L engine - Probably not go the super charger route but something that will let me go a reasonable speed on the highway once I have all this other junk mounted to the truck :lmao:

I expect that the major mechanical things will be done in the next two weeks. The minor mechanical issues will take longer to get around to doing. The "nice-to-have" stuff on the second list will probably take the rest of my life :lmao:
