The 2F exhaust interferes with the drop down bracket for the front sway bar on the 80 chassis. Curious how many 80 owners are running without a front sway bar and how squirly the truck is?

Been running with no sway bars since 2005. Can maybe get squirrely, not sure. I haven’t driven an 80 with them in forever.

I’ve been driving my short 80 for two years without the front sway bar. This is a trail modification that started when the the right side bracket broke off. I had heard a noise and didn’t think of much of it. Then I had just reached near the bottom of a descent, pointing towards a several hundred foot cliff just before Devil’s racetrack when the brake pedal went to the floor. Turns out when you break that right side bracket the sway bar is free to get into the hard brake line right above it.

I was in low range 1st and pumping the brakes and pulling the handbrake got me to a stop. It could have been bad.

We pinched off the line with vice grips, turned around and drove back to Green River. Bought a short piece of 3/16 metric brake line and fixed it.

If you don’t have a front sway bar, you don’t have something that’s gonna rip off and take out your brake line. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Where you will most notice the difference without a front sway bar is if you need to make an emergency maneuver. In normal driving I think it felt it a little different in Glenwood Canyon, but not much elsewhere.

The factory bracket breaks because it is welded at the front and back of the U and it is not welded along the sides where the vertical plates extend upward to hold the sway bar.

When I had the engine out of the LongCruiser, we ran weld along the sides of the brackets to anchor them. While I am rebuilding a front axle to put under the LongCruiser, I will be reinforcing the brackets. When I finally get around to fixing the bracket on my Short 80 front axle Landtank makes a heavy duty bracket to replace the factory one. It would all be also be fairly easy for any half competent fabricator to make a bracket.

First three or what they should look like. Pictures of my left side. Next two are the bracket after being broken off. Pictures of my right side. Final is me holding the broken bracket up against where it broke off.

I kind of thought this might be the feedback on the the front bar. Given the interference I currently have with the 2F exhaust route I think I will go with the bar delete at this time on the 140 build. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Not an 80 series but wanted to add to this sway bar hate hootenanny.

I recently had an outer CV axle boot get sliced wide open it seemed by the end link on my sway bar. If there's a lucky part it's that I make it a point to poke my head under the truck every morning before driving off. Glad I did. It was also in the parking lot where I was staying in Hayes, KS, after driving solo on secondary and tertiary state highways from Pueblo to Hayes that I didn't see anyone for long periods. And there's a Toyota dealer in Hayes. And it seems to have happened not long before I noticed it.

The irony is that I had taken it off years ago but decided due to needing to do an Interstate tow it might be good to have it on last spring. It got taken back off when I got back home and I'm thinking of alternative uses for the stupid thing, it'll never be put back on my truck. That's for sure.

No front, but upgraded to a 30mm whiteline sway bar for the rear.

I had the front sway bar removed for a decade. Never really missed it. I reinstalled it a few years ago with the Landtank brackets in my search for stability (which isn't fixed yet but I am making progress).

I think a factor in this is individual driving style and personal comfort level. I have ditched the front sway bar in almost every truck I have ever owned so I am used to the feeling.
I don't experience much body roll in my tacoma without my front sway bar but it's slightly offset by 700lbs coils on my coilovers making it a little stiff up front with the IFS.
I pulled both F & R sway bars on my 80 with 3" slinky coils and caster adjustment and it drives without too much issue, I just pay attention to speed limit signs in corners and use that to dictate my cornering speed.

Ok I'll be the odd one... again. You remember Matt on the Rubicon when we all removed our sway bars the first night? then the next day it felt like wheeling a hot marsh mellow... I hated it, just way too floppy. Hated it on the highway back home also, bolted them both up as soon as I could.

if my next 80 doesn't come with swaybars I'll be hitting one of you guys up for yours..

Yeah, I took mine off and didn't put it back on for like 12 years. 🤷‍♂️

I also busted a bolt or two removing it. I was impressed with Cruiser Dan who worked on the bolts on his rig for over an hour so he could take them out clean.

Now you guys have me thinking that I should take mine off before it busts and takes out my brake line. Every time I wheel it crosses my mind.

Sway bar disconnects exist for 80s, I think? I’ve dabbled looking into it but not seriously yet.

I have them and theyre worth it. pretty simple to diy but also the landtank ones arent too pricey. when i get to trail hear or spot to air down, I install my valve stem bleeders, then throw down a moving blanket(i try my best not to start the day off dirty haha) and disconnect the sway bar. By the time thats done im usually aired down and loading up to get on trail.
