It's still a 40 (no matter how hard you try to make it into a mini truck). :hill:

We're a couple weeks away, so hopefully everyone is crawling around under their 40's and making sure it's in top condition for the run over Kingston......
Well, I *possibly* may make it after my recent melee. I crawled under the 40 when the drive shaft separated and found out why. Right rear spring mount ripped from the frame and flapping..weak...but I am working on it...50% chance right now and the possibility goes up from there. :dunno:

Hi Guys - last posted on this forum the last time I took my FJ to CO, back in 2011. My wife and I may be headed to Vail for our anniversary, I could possibly talk her into spending the day on the trail, possibly.

If I can, we'd be heading home to ND on the 10th, so wondering if there would be a truck and trailer friendly place on the evening of the 9th at a nice hotel (super nice if possible?) in the N denver metro which would be a good place for us to head out from on the 10th? I don't feel like trailering into downtown denver, but at the same time, its our 17th anniversary so if I can't find a nice hotel and great spot for dinner, I'm toast ;)

As far as this trail, how technical is it? My wife and I were in a rollover 10 years ago in a Land Rover and she's been a bit freaked of hard core trails ever since.

Regardless of if this trip works for me or not, I look forward to hopefully joining you on trail rides next summer.

Thanks for your advice!

John

The trail isn't very technical at all; mostly baby-head sized rocks and a few loose climbs. It'll be bouncy for sure in the 40's. But much of the trail is above treeline, so the views are top notch!

Not sure about hotels - maybe someone else will chime in.

Thanks for the reply. If you're in Lafayette (been studying google maps) how's the Omni Interlocken Resort in Bloomfield? Looks like the area isn't too crowded so maybe trailered FJ friendly.

It's a pretty nice place. Big pool with outdoor movies on the weekend, golf course and a large parking lot. I think they have decent weekend rates.

Hello 40 owners.

Looks like I will be missing the 40s Run as I'll be moving my family Eastward that weekend and be gone for two weeks trying to get them settled in our new home among the Corn. I'll be back August 17-Sept 30 to finish my USFS season, and then away I go.

Have a great time on the 40's Run.. Keep the tradition alive and keep those 40's on the trail!

Baby head size rocks? That's kinda creepy, Matt! We'll have to bring out the new to us 40 to see how it goes in baby head rocks. Just drove it home and it does just fine on road. :D

No, you didn't miss anything other than yes, the red 40 was sold in early May. Going to try to get the new owner to make the 40 run with us. She hasn't been off road yet, but it sounds as if Kingston would be a good first run. Our new 40 is more than ready for the trail. :thumb:

I just looked on the Calendar and realized the the 9th is a Saturday and I would have to close my store to attend this run. Since our Rally is also on a Saturday, that would be two weekends I would have to blow off work in one month. As much as I'd like to join this run, Sundays are really the best days of the week for me right now for wheeling as far as work schedule.

Sucks 'cause my 40 is running great and I've been driving her to and from work every day. Fixed the tail light and tail pipe from the Father's Day Run mauling.

I might be able to make it (if I can get the 40 back together).
It is all tore down waiting for paint and tube fenders are getting rino lined. Hopefully painted on wed.

Dang it! Last year on the way to this run I lost the pilot bearing and had to be towed home. My plan was to have my rebuild done in time for the 2014 run.
I'm close but it's not going to be trail worthy by then.
I'm out again this year.
