Hey Josh, as of right now I am not planning to do the Baja XL again in 2025, but because its two years away still, I could change my mind. I loved that the BajaXL was a perfect way to see the peninsula, but it was too fast of a pace for me. I am hoping to participate in another rally, called the Slow Baja Rally, put on by Michael Emery of the Slow Baja podcast.
Here is what Michael had to say about the Slow Baja Rally:
"We will start in San Diego, drive as far as Loreto, and have two nights there for rest and recovery. I'm working on ready-made excursions, a mule-packing trip, a kayaking trip, and a volunteering opportunity. I'll also have some Slow Baja Approved repair shops, taco stands, and sights not to miss.
The difference in this event will be the community. We'll emphasize community and host a BBQ the night before to encourage everyone to buddy up. We're working on a plan to use paper maps only. We want to promote the beauty (and chaos) that arises when all the answers aren't known. The engagement of everyone inside and sometimes asking for directions outside the vehicle is a valuable part of old-school Baja travel.
My goal is a slower pace, fewer repairs, more roadside fun stops, and more time at camp in the daylight! More sharing and caring --which can be in food, a cold beer, or an assist with a vehicle repair. We need more time sharing stories around the campfire, playing guitar, and watching the stars and less time rushing around collecting waypoints."
This rally is set to take place Feb 23-Mar 3 2024.
If that is something you're interested in, let me know!
