FR 101

4 people x 4 hrs = 16 hrs

Didn't drop into the loop due to snow. Ran straight out to the gate at the end of the main road and had a picnic. Picked up some trash. Snow was manageable in a stock 100 with A/Ts.

Had to get a quick run in before the storm hit. Quite a bit of snow. Picked up some trash as usual.

Yeah, well apparently that has changed. There used to be a sign where you turn off the main road to drop into the loop. It looked like this:

Now the sign is gone and it looks like this:

So I went poking around the Pike National Forest website and found a new seasonal closure order here. This new order supersedes and rescinds the previous order. The roads are now closed April 1 through May 31 instead of Jan 1 through April 1. Honestly, it doesn't make any more sense to me than the last closure. Losing May sucks but at least it's only 2 months instead of 4.

Gotcha. Yea it’s never made sense to me either. Thanks for getting me in the know.

I can understand why it is closed through Memorial Day weekend now I have camped up there for the that weekend a couple of times and the traffic was so heavy all weekend long. Especially since it is one of the few early trails to be open. The last time we went up I would guess that 2-300 trucks came through, it was non stop all weekend. Even 3 to 4 groups would come through at night as well. Not to mention that every rubicon had to go into the meadow and tear it up. It rained and sleeted all weekend making it a very wet trail. And to top it off with all that traffic we were the only ones up there camping.
