I don't mind leading, if available... my issues are just family schedules, same as most of you- both kids play soccer and I am generally committed to supporting that. I can bail for a day, sure, but not if the wife has to work that weekend, which is often.. and she doesn't get her schedule until a couple weeks before. Makes committing to pretty much anything far in advance difficult.

I like the idea of running Jenny Creek on Saturday though. We could then come back down the pass & camp somewhere up Mammoth Gulch that night... which allows for a bonus Kingston run on Sunday for anyone with any gas left, or folks who couldn't get out on Saturday. What do you think of that plan...

and heck I need to get up there, I haven't driven Jenny Creek in a 40 since I had Romer's 40

Current thinking is that the Sunday of that weekend might be the first legitimate chance at having the rally. An overnight camping/Sunday run would pretty much kill the rally idea if it was an all day thing. But it might make for a super cool, 'intro" into the rally if a ton of 40's rolled over Kingston early on Sunday & then convoyed into the rally.

That all assumes that the Rally can be done on that Sunday (15th I think it is).

Well the reality is, like 3 people will camp. at least historically speaking.. but perhaps this year gets more with a little more advanced planning. But I wouldn't sweat losing too many rally participants due to camping/Kingston, can be done and in Golden by 11:00 easy.

But blending the two events is brilliant, Abe. We should totally do that. :thumb:

Tim, Jenny creek used to be a 6/10 technical trail with a few hard spots. I think it is about a 3/10 after the reroute. The first bit and the last bit are still awesome but the reroute sure leveled the trail. ANY 40 can walk it all though.

Please keep posting updates on this run. I am a non member with a stock '77 40 that would love to attend, if I am allowed to join you guys. There are a few Sun members that can vouch for me as I have been on the trail or at events with them, although none of them have seen the 40 since I usually get out in my mini truck. Camping is very appealing since I will be driving my 40 from Crested Butte. So, please let me know if I can join in on the fun.

40’s only

Hoping to attend in my own truck this year. My 72 40 should be good to go by then.

Yeah all are welcome for this... and I am about 90% now on committing to lead, got the blessing on soccer & kids just need the wife to confirm her schedule. Thought about this a bit today, let me put this out there for a proposed itinerary...

Saturday morning: Meet at the intersection of Hwy 93 and Colorado 72 at 08:30, driving away by 09:00. link to location https://goo.gl/maps/n63QiKGmBF42

this allows us to caravan up the hill together at a nice 40-like pace, about an hour shake-down run to get to the trailhead. If you're coming from non-front range locations you can post up for alternative directions, or just meet us up there if know where you're going. Should be in Rollinsville around 9:45. CB4, 146.460 on 2m.

Saturday night: whoever wants to camp we'll find a cool spot. Either stay up by Jenny Lake, or go down the hill then up the Mammoth side.. lots of cool spots up there, we'll let the group decide, room for everyone.. :camping:

Sunday am: anyone who wants to run Kingston meet at the big puddle that is no longer a puddle, top of Mammoth Gulch, 09:00. this is either up the hill through Apex if coming from the south, or up the hill through Tolland if coming from the north. Lat: 39°51'32.83"N Lon: 105°37'37.63"W

Keep in mind this is a good 2 hours from most places in Denver and Kittredge. post up if you need directions. We'll then run Kingston Peak, head down Fall River, under I-70, then down hwy 6 to Golden, which should put us at the Rally by 11:00-11:30.

Bring: tons of water, extra clothes, and general stuff that makes 40's keep running. Bring a lunch for each day you want to be on the trail. If camping, bring more water, more clothes, more food, maybe some camping stuff. It will probably rain at least once, usually does.

we'll call Saturday the "official" run, Sunday the optional bonus run. And anyone with a 40 is welcome to attend one or both. If you don't have a 40 and want to come this is a great opportunity to find a ride in one- the Saturday run can easily return to town the same way if you need to leave a car down at the PnR where we met at 8:30. If we run fairly issue-free, you should be back in Rollinsville by 3:00, back to your car by 4.

Any 40 that is well maintained with good tires can do both of these trails. Please spend some time under the truck & hood to button things up and refresh some maintenance items; simple stuff like check battery cables, battery hold-down, oil, coolant level, etc.... cell coverage is spotty at best on both trails, we'll of course be connected with radios should an emergency arise. Did I miss anything?

Tim thanks for considering leading. I am guessing the official Saturday run is Jenny Creek.

All sounds good! I plan on heading up Friday (from Pueblo) and camp near the trailhead for the Saturday run, then hopefully camp and run on Sunday as well, before making the trip back south. I'll post up on the CO Landcruiser forum the 40s only info!

Just flipped my Rising Sun calendar over to September... great shot of last year's 40's only run!

Curious who all is planning on going on 9/15? Just want to know about how many to wait for down on 93, or if you'll just already be in Rollinsville... anyone else camping?

Might see if I can tag along for this run. Always a fun one. Still up in the air though. May be heading down to Chaco with Dad that day.

I'll be there, and trying to get my Brother in Law to get his 40 on the trail...He's barely driven it since I finished it last year!

Not planning on camping, but planning on meeting up on Hwy 93.
