I'm planning on i25 south to 76 over to 70 then out to 58 and up the canyon. I don't know your planned routes to pick a time and place. Maybe the Kipling Exit North to the SW corner of 49th and Kipling? There's a parking lot there, Bubba Chinos, I think, and it's easy on and off from 70. As far as time, I'm not sure on that yet. I'd rather arrive in Rollinsville early than late and we are in cruisers.....

Looks like a post minimum or waiting for approval. Wanted to see if the Beau Jo's is the one at 74/73 area? Also should have an empty seat.

Weather permitting (and differential install) I am hoping to make this run. Will be towing up and hopefully dropping the truck/trailer at the restaurant mentioned above. Hoping to spend the night in C-springs then dropping Mrs. off in Denver near 225 & 70 then heading toward Rollinsville Saturday morning. What should Denver traffic be like that time in the morning?

Traffic shouldn't be too bad at all but the peak to peak highway (119) can be tough on a 40 with a lot of turns and hills. See you there!

Camping is good to go!

I called Clear Creek and the signs only pertain to 1/4 section of the trail head. We are fine to camp where I scoped out a few spots. Anyone planning on overnight?

I'm planning on leaving my house at about 715. Want to rendezvous at about 730 at I70/Kipling and convoy?

Bubba Chinos is gone. It's just a gas station now, I can't remember the brand off the top of my head.

How will the troopy fare on this trail? What's more, we were planning on camping, which means we'll have our trailer. How will the troopy & m101 fare? Are the bypasses for any hard stuff?

Sounds like a plan, Sascha. Anyone else is welcome to meet us at the gas station, formerly Bubba Chinos! I thought that had changed a few years ago but Google maps is....less that accurate.
See you all then. The weather is going to be awesome, trees are changing, great people, lots of classic iron....it's gonna be a great day!

For trailer parking, is Beau Jo's the closest spot? Is it the one that shows up close to the intersection of 73 and 74 by Evergreen South of I-70? I will be in Denver around I-225 and I-70 late Friday and trailer from there to the closest trailer parking Saturday morning.

The Beau Jos we will be going to is in downtown Idaho Springs. I70 goes through Idaho Springs. There may or may not be space for trailer parking there. It is a municipal lot and rather big, but it gets a lot of business. Get there early. And it is a bit of a drive from there to the meeting spot for Kingston Peak...45 minutes to an hour depending on how well your 40 goes uphill at paved road speeds. You might consider leaving your trailer in Denver and caravanning up with us in your 40. 7:30 at I70/Kipling, just north of the highway.

In Gillette, WY. If anyone sees a white trailered FJ at a mall south of Denver this afternoon it will be me. Daughters haven't been to an American Girl store before so guess where I'm headed ;)

Off roading buddy Jeff is flying in from KC this afternoon to ride along.

Looking forward to tomorrow, will be trailering from Vail to Beau Jo's lot, hopefully my timing works out to make it to Rollinsville on time. I have Drew's number so can keep in touch and if I'm late, I'll catch up.

Will check thread later for any updates.

Troopy and m101 would be just fine, there was only one tight switchback on the down hill side of Kingston. Kingston is a cakewalk with a 1/2 mile stretch of steepish loose baby doll head sized rocks but any cruiser can walk it open/open diffs as long as you don't stall or slow down. As for Barbour fork, there is a tough section before the camping area that has an easy smooth bypass. The upper portion of the trail i wouldn't want a trailer on, but theres a great spot to leave trailers at camp. So I think you'd be fine either way. :thumb:

Just a thought it is wind swept and COLD on Kingston Peak. I was up there Tuesday when it was 90* in Denver it was 45* and windy at noon at elevation. Just dress accordingly. Looks like we will have great weather and a fun time. I'm filling up everything with 90wt today and loading my camping gear, I'm stoked to see you guys and meet some of the new fellas. :thumb:
