Wife and I are up for camping that Saturday night, but not familiar with the area. Is there a specific place to camp?

Lots of good camping. The lower road is probably where most folks will be. Not a bad idea to head up with someone familiar with the area.

Just want to bump this for interest - it's only two weeks away! If you're planning on coming and haven't posted up, please post up so we can get an estimate of how many we need to plan for for lunch! Please check the first post to see if you're accounted for there. Yes, the club is buying lunch for all participants!

Also, if this is your first cleanup run with Rising Sun, I will be raffling off a Rising Sun logo'd Trasharoo bag! That's good incentive to get new faces involved with our Land Use efforts!

Camping Details

If available, we'll be in one of the larger sites on the right of the road as you're heading up, hopefully the big flat one before the lefthand switchback- off the main pass road, not the Leavenworth Creek road by the river. The river sites are better campsites, but seeing as how we need to be back at the bottom first thing Sunday why make things difficult- plus we'll have more space down below, the ones up higher are really best for 2-3 trucks max.

for anyone who hasn't been there before here are your directions: as soon as you leave pavement you'll go over what's likely the rockiest section of the entire trail system in the first 100 yards or so, then you hit a switchback, then get to a junction. take a right. If you go left it dead ends (feel free to explore, there's a cool spur that dead ends at the top of a small waterfall. So anyway you went right, you'll meander for a bit then at a right-hand switchback you'll see a spur to your left headed up the drainage- that doesn't really go anywhere, stay right and head up the main road. Look to the right, that's where we should be camped... if you see a group of moderately build Land Cruisers, yeah that's probably us. If you don't see anyone, then keep going- the road switches back left, then you'll see the Adopt-a-Road sign, then you'll get to another right-hand switchback where there's a spur to the left- take that, as it's the Leavenworth Creek section... we'll figure out a spot. Shout out on your radio if you feel you are lost.

One more, if you'll have me. Happy to meet at the visitor center in Georgetown since I'm not 100% sure that I know the trail.

I've got a chainsaw if it's helpful.

I can meet anybody who needs help getting to the trailhead at the visitor center at 8:30. We'll have easy radio contact with you nakman, and I know exactly where you plan on camping

So I was looking at the threads from past cleanup runs, and I saw these pictures of a small cabin, or shack, that's up there.

I'm curious what the deal is with this cabin. It looks like people have been camping out there from time to time. (these pictures were from 2010) Can someone do that? Is the Forest service cool with people camping out for a night in the cabin? :dunno: I think it would be pretty cool to do that one weekend.

I think (but don't quote me) the Forest Service discourages folks from camping in structures like this that aren't maintained. It's simply a collapse hazard (honestly I would rather sleep outside in a tent than under that roof). But I doubt it is against any kind of law. The Forest Service is planning on closing off motorized access to that cabin, so in a couple years it will only be hiking access and will probably be a lot less used.

We (my wife and I) are not members (yet), but are curious if we could join the cleanup?

We have a 2006 4Runner (grey) SR5, with BudBuilt skids, White-Knuckle sliders, BFG ATs, and a Perkins bumper on the way.

Is there anything useful we could be bring? Thanks.

Absolutely! We would love to have you!

As far as what to bring, work gloves, trash bags, sturdy shoes, and a good attitude! :thumb:

We won't have carsonite to install this go-round, but we'll be putting up a couple posters and just generally trying to make sure everything is in tip top shape!
