Jack-it Night: April 2024 RS Meeting
Hey Guest: Wed. April 3rd is the next Rising Sun meeting, and you won't want to miss it. We're doing our annual offroad recovery equipment demonstration and trail skills training aka "Jack It Night." Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. (early) Click here for all the details.
Installed some diode dynamics ss3 led sae fog lights. Love the wide pattern and cutoff. Waiting on the yellow covers for some versatility. Think the cheapo bar is going to be replaced with their 12" driving beam bar.
Ever so slowly trying to get the Cruiser back on the road... Proportioning valve mounted and plumbed up. Not super happy with it, but it will hopefully get the job done.
Going to order what I think are non-ABS lines and hopefully make it look a little better at some point.
The right blinker on my 40 stopped working. I double checked the grounds even though the emergency flashers still worked. Everything checked out good. Unplugged the signal switch and tested the connections, finding no joy.
Removed the steering wheel, and signal switch, cleaned up the guts (contacts had filth from 1977 along with sticky dielectric grease) emery clothed connections clean replied clean grease, and got both directions back!
Started the LC and the 4Runner. Nether have been driven much at all since buying Wilma. I’ve been daily driving my daughters car since she hasn’t got her license yet. 😁
Are you planning to tow with that receiver? How is that piece tied into the frame? This is one of my main concerns about going this route, but glad that you are testing it out.

Pretty easy job for a cold day. I put new seam sealer on the hood a few weeks back since the rattle was driving me nuts. Didn't do the cleanest job but was focused on function over form and didn't remove the hood.
My old hoodliner was also all sorts of nasty and zip tied in place by the PO. New one certainly looks nice.
I guess for me on a 4x4 labs bumper is if the receiver is tied to the frame based on something I would have to weld. I wouldn't mind learning and building a bumper kit after some practice, but would I want to tow trusting this my weld....

Yep I plan to tow and that's one of the reasons I went with this bumper; it had the beefiest tow hitch setup that also was extremely high clearance design vs. other ones that hang down a lot lower or are very minimalist. Yes, it's strength will ultimately rely on my welds so I've tried to do them as best I can and taking advice from more experienced people. I think even with amateur welds the amount of contact area and thickness of the metal will ensure it's strong. Big thanks to @allen.wrench and @DomOfTheDead for their help and guidance so far.
Here's some better photos of the receiver structure. The whole bumper bolts to the frame with eight 10.9 grade bolts plus an additional six 8.8 grade bolts whereas the original tow crossmember is only held on with six 10.9 bolts. So on that front the 4x4Labs is more stout than OEM. Lastly, there is also no reason that I can't add my OEM receiver crossmember and just sandwich it against the 4x4Labs bumper if I desire.
