Is there a fire ban in Colorado, if not, I have alot of firewood I can bring. If there is a fire ban, is a propane fire pit allowed?
Yes, there is a statewide ban in place right now. I will have to look into the particulars to see if a propane fire pit is cool.

I'm hoping to get down there Wednesday night and secure a spot. Brain, @Beach Boy , is going to be down there Wednesday as well. Once we secure a spot (by Thursday at the latest) I will update this thread with the coordinates so everybody will know where to head. I will try to have my APRS working but I haven't had much luck with it on past excursions so I can't make any promises.

There's a pretty good chance that we'll be camping in the general area @RayRay27 listed. As he also referenced, I was able to reach him loud and clear when he was at camp and I was at the top of Cottonwood pass. So worse case scenario, just call out when you get close.

As far as the route goes, there are a lot of people having to bail last minute so we might be running just one group. If we still have enough for two groups, then yes, one group will go clockwise and the other will go counter-clockwise. If it is just one group, we'll get a general consensus and go with that. I'm really flexible and I'm sure the group will be as well.

Roger. What time are we planning to leave camp saturday morning? Just so I'm clear the goal is to tackle all of the passes in one day?

The Gunnison area is in a Stage 1 fire ban. Open fires are only allowed at established campgrounds. If you all are dispersed camping, then no fires. Portable fire pits are only allowed on private property in Gunnison County. Dorchester has always been good in the past, and then you could have a fire :

Would be happy to meet other Campers in Leadville or BV on Friday afternoon to head to campsite. Still hoping to do the passé clockwise, so I can do Italian and Pearl and then peel off in Aspen to see family and grouse hunt.

Wheels up by 7:00am and yes, still planning on tackling all 3 in one day. The point of this is an endurance type run. I know it is going to be a long day but it's going to make the beer and steak taste that much better when it is all over. ;)

So I highly suggest that you don’t surprise any people that may be doing this with you. My wife loves all 3 of these trails but decided not to come because she doesn’t want to “endure” this. And I agree wity nick... we need to be leaving camp at 7am. I’m super pumped for this, even thinking about making a hat or something.

I would suggest to everyone to fuel up in either Buena Vista or at the Taylor park trading post depending on what time you get to Taylor. When we ran Italian creek I used a little less then a half of tank or close to a 1/3. Otherwise you'll (We'll) have to stop in Crested Butte.

Yeah, good point. Please let your wives, girlfriends, significant other, kids know that this is going to be a pretty fast paced, long day. Not to assume anything but I'm pretty sure most "passengers" would get pretty wore out.

Also another great point. We will be camping near the trailhead no matter which direction we go and the only opportunity for gas once we get going is Crested Butte. That place is usually super busy though and it will take us quite a bit of time to get through the gas station if we have to stop.

If you fill up at Buena Vista before coming over Cottonwood pass, you should have enough gas to make the full loop. If we still have to stop, it's not going to be the end of the world but let's try to prevent it if we can.

My memory was filling up in Crested Butte but the group wasn't so big as to make this especially problematic.

Also pull my name, looks like I'm out for the run itself. Might zip over to socialize still.

Good call. I'm planning to bring 10 gallons of auxiliary fuel. That should be plenty for me w/ some left over.

I remember seeing this pic but forgot it was from 2000. So this is the 20th anniversary?!?!? Then yes, something to commemorate it is definitely in order!

Always good to see you Dave even if it isn't on the run itself.

As many people have dropped out, a fuel stop may not be a problem now. However, when @RayRay27 and I were there a couple of weekends ago, the gas stations were SLAMMED! The mountain towns are definitely hopping right now and my fear is that will cause a longer than normal fuel stop. But again, that may be a moot concern now.

I think i'm out also folks. Can't seem to pull it together this year for some reason.
No worries man. I know the feeling.

I am not 100% that I can make this. I have some parts on order and it will depend on if I can get the delivered and installed before Friday.

*Edit* Ha ha the smaller group size really has me wanting to make this!

Nothing like a run to keep you motivated! I don't know if I ever work on my truck unless there is a run scheduled. :ROFLMAO:
