80 series windshield replacement shops? (NO GO on Frisco Safelite)

My windshield had quite a few cracks and started squeaking pretty loudly. Turns out the top was separating from the body, did some research and looks like the last time it was replaced by the PO no adhesive was used. Lucky I didn't have a leak.

Took it to Safelite in Frisco this morning for a replacement. Talked to the tech who seemed to be a great guy. After reading on MUD about how many issues people have following a replacement I was one of "those guys" that showed up with the FSM pages on the replacement procedure. The tech seemed happy to have them and promised me they would follow them.

A few hours later I go back to pickup the LC. First I was informed that no adhesive was used in the entire process, and the Toyota FSM was outdated and incorrect.... Then they took me outside to show me the paint damage on the hood (down to bare metal) that happened when they "Kicked the old winshield out". At least they offered to pay for a respray of the hood which will take care of some other rock chips I had. They also did a very poor job of resenting the interior gasket around the headliner and a pillar covers....

Maybe I wont develop any leaks since I never had an issue before and no adhesive was used but I am still going to do a good hose test in the next few days. Overall I am not very pleased with their level of service. Went with them for the nationwide warranty and already regretting it. If a leak develops I am going to request that they pay for another shop to do the install. Should I give Stevenson a call or is there a better option in the area?

I live in Summit and they are all bad. I used to use dependable and they are nice but didn't use adhesive also and my 80 leaks.

Do 80 series have rust issues like 100 series when the windshield is replaced? I need to get my 100 series windshield replaced because of rust from a bad previous install...

Any chance you own the awesome white 80 I see parked at the Dillon fire dept?

Ive definitely creeped around that rig a few times looking at things for inspiration.

No. I do have a built white one but it mainly lives with my girlfriend in Golden.

From what I have read, using adhesive is critical to retain the glass against the force of deploying airbags. Safelite used to run annoying TV commercials about this. I totally swore off Safelite when they steadfastly refused to quote me a cash price; they apparently only want insurance jobs.

A drive, but probably worth it:
Cornerstone Auto Glass
(303) 697-5252

Did my 100 rear window last year. Referred by Jeff Zepp. Be sure to tell them how the referral was made. That's accountability.

Yes, 80's can have rust. Usually at top. Years ago before a replacement, I gut back the gasket quite a bit and addressed the rust myself.

Insist on OEM Toyota gasket. Glass will almost always be the $250 ish aftermarket. OEM is about $750.

I got a couple of windshields replaced on my 80 by Dependable auto glass in Breck. I bought a new gasket from Toyota before they did it the first time 14 years ago, never had any leaking or problems. I might bring my 100 there when I get the windshield replaced.
