Yea - pretty cool. I haven't noticed any bad smells, but the back pressure from my tank is fairly high.

I may give this a try. Thanks for the link!

Started thinking about this when you walked by my truck on slaughterhouse and went "snif snif, my truck has that same gas smell

I installed an aftermarket canister last weekend (along w/ my LANDTANK Sleeve!) and when I filled up on Thursday, ABSOLUTELY ZERO VENTING from the gas cap!!! Very easy install; however, I was not able to get one of the bottom bolts of the bracket back in with the larger canister. Shouldn't be a problem...I'll take it knowing that I'm not building pressure any more. Very nice!

I just now installed the one linked to from Mud. I'll add some pictures next.

It is considerably larger in diameter. It fits, but like Romer I did not use the lower bracket because it seemed like too much grief to get the lower bracket on the canister and then place it all back in location. (Tip: remove the straps from the body bracket by removing the three nuts facing the engine block.)

You will need something in the order of a 2.5 x 1/4 (or 3/16) bolt to clamp the bracket to the new canister.

Also, after reading the Mud posts, I modified the dish at the bottom by drilling drain holes. I would have liked to pull the dish off to see how the vent worked but did not want to risk breakage. At least now it will not hold water.

1. About how close the bracket closes on OEM Canister (the ends touch when tightened).
2. About how close the bracket closes on replacement aftermarket Canister.
3. Bottom of replacement aftermarket Canister as delivered.
4. Bottom of replacement aftermarket Canister as drilled for drainage.
5. Replacement aftermarket Canister installed showing 2.5 inch bolt.

I called around on this...

Autozone and Pep Boys are ~$36 on this canister, and Checker and Adv Auto are ~$54. All need to special order it. I put in the 'request' as being for a '92 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.1 v6.

Zero smell. Zero pressure when opening gas cap.

Steve - the Mud thread has a link. I just ordered online. Was $44 delivered.

I did the same...bought one for my neighbors 80 as well and shared shipping which wasn't much to begin with. So glad I did this...no more noxious fumes.

Bought one today. On the last few fill ups, I was unable to put gas in until the tank stopped venting. The pressure was enough to turn off the gas pump.

I didn't really like having to go aftermarket on this, but the price tag for new Toyota just doesn't make sense for this particular part.

Guys, how is this holding up? And can anyone speculate if I'd have issues trying to put this in a 100 series? Now that it's hot out my 100 smells as bad as, or maybe even worse than, the 80 ever did.. stinks up the whole garage. :(

I had a slight gas smell once driving back from Utah. But :perry: was in the truck (:lmao:).

Seriously: no pressure, no smells.

I am in the same boat Tim.

Pulled up to Mike Smith's shop yesterday and he was comforted that he was not the only one having this issue in a 100 series. I mentioned it seems to only happen when really hot.

I am not that worried, unless it is time to replace the charcoal filter.

My 100 has had the same issue since I bought it. Has this been done on a 100 yet?
