You guys are welcome to use my solder station at home. I have very fine tips for SMC parts. Or if you want to swing by here at work in the evening or weekend, we have very nice rework stations with scopes and everything (NASA qualified even!).

True, I'm not willing to kill the display at this time. I'll let someone else be the guinea pig. They are very, very small and don't look like they are easily replaced.

Once you have it figured out let me know:D

The little bitty tabs on the side are the solder points

Off the subject Danny Chapparo was asking about Winch rope today. I told her you were very knowledgable about it....

Yeah...they are that small
I'm seriously impressed, I can't solder 0603 and 0402 parts without the scopes. BTW, if anyone wonders, 0402 designates a part that is 0.040" x 0.020" in dimension. Literally a speck on paper. Root's LEDs are 0603.

This is what 0402 look like on a penny. And a few SMD parts, 0201, 0402, 0603 and 0805 on top of a 28-pin DIP that's a little less than 1.5" long.

I'm bummed 'cause my FT-90R came blue out of the box and it looks out of place in my dash. And the mic LEDs are standard Yaesu amber tho you can switch them off. It would probably benefit from brighter LEDs as there is no brightness/contrast combination that helps me see it in daylight. Maybe I need that cataract surgery sooner than later...
