Haven’t decided yet Ray. Grand Vista has been recommended in the past.

Can anyone recommend a cheap campground nearby? Weather should be nice.
What is your definition of cheap and acceptable? There's no free dispersed that's really close enough anymore for this.

The morning schedule you have to do means close enough camping is KOA and RV of the parking lot aesthetic sort. I'd do Grand Vista instead of those personally.

You could camp at the Monument, that may be a viable option. The CG is on the Fruita side so it would be about half an hour drive back to GJ. It's close to the west gate but the road up from 340 to the CG is switchbacks and slow.

There's also the James Robb state park, CGs are in Fruita and east of Palisade. Of those the Fruita one would be better. It would be almost the same distance as the NPS campground but easy access and close to I-70 that you could cut the drive time quite a bit.

There's BLM camping at 18 Road north of Fruita or in Rabbit Valley. Those I gotta think are bit more than you'll want to do early two weekend mornings.

Rode over in Fruita yesterday for FWIW timed a couple of drives.

From the main 18 Road trailhead (as roughly a stand-in for the nearest camping up there) to 1st and Patterson (near the Masonic Lodge). It's 40 minutes and about 22 miles.

From the James Robb CG via CO340 it's 25 minutes and 13 miles. I would expect the I-70 option to be a lot faster, though.

Unfortunately getting the trailer stuck probably means hanging it up on plumbing bits that none of us want to see break!

And a stuck F-150 isn’t _that_ rare of a sighting, but I can definitely see why the Toyota kids could enjoy that :)

Any high level agenda items to help us plan/pack. Major AM/PM activities? Most importantly, lunch at the Temple, restaurant or in the field? Have to be prepared!

I recommend packing a lunch but there is food options around the Masonic lodge. Sometimes Bill invites folks over to hang around his firepit Saturday evening but that is up to him, he doesn't always do that. There are some good breakfast and dinner options available in the area.

Assuming you're staying at the Grand Vista you can get a good cup of coffee and normal quick stuff like burritos at Octopus Coffee across the street. Address: 759 Horizon Dr, GJ, CO 81506

Another option if you're on top of schedule and have time for diner-speed can do real breakfast at First Watch, which is at 1st and Patterson not far from the Masonic lodge. Address: 20 W Park Dr, GJ, CO 81505

Bring a lunch, you can't count on time to get it. Kind of depends too on how fast or slow you guys move.

If you need to stock up there's a Safeway at Horizon and 12th St, about a mile west of Grand Vista. You can see the new Mormon temple in all it's blistering white marble beauty, too. Address: 681 Horizon Dr, GJ, CO 81506

In the event you have time to get lunch near the Masonic lodge there's a new-ish place, Great Greek, on Patterson that is pretty good. Address: 2566 Patterson Rd, GJ, CO 81505

Otherwise it's kind of a desert up there. McAllister's Deli is close to the First Watch. I'd suggest 7th St Deli, across from St. Mary's hospital instead, if you have time. Address: 2232 N 7th St, GJ, CO 81501

Other options, dinners, etc. Let me know preferences, if you want more recommendations.

Took me about 4 hrs and 45min to get to GJ tonight. I was one of about 10 cars on the road. Non-stop construction and lane closures. Perhaps it will be better on a Friday afternoon (lolz)…. Y’all been warned.
