TYT TH-9800 → clone of beloved Yaesu FT-8800

I'm troubleshooting my FT-7800 and I stumbled upon a disucssion about TYT radios. They are still making clones of discontinued Yaesu radios. I've spent significant dollars with Yaesu and will continue doing so, but if my 7800 is fried, I may try one of these radios in its place.

This one is probably the FT-7800 clone. $209.99

I have 0 experience with these radios, but the online elmers seem to think they are prettu good.

I’m currently using a Boafeng UV5R and have been wanting to upgrade for a while.

I know very little about the technical stuff regarding radios. For me, the simpler the better.
I like the idea of having a dual band mobile system with decent power and a good antenna.

Tell me, what is the difference between the two options you posted? From my limited understanding they look very similar. What kind of things should be considered when deciding what you want?

One difference appears to be dual band vs quad band. For quad band to work you need a quad band antenna.

The TYT TH-9800 gives you FM on four bands: 70cm, 2M, 6M, and 10M. I use 2M about 99.999% of the time. I run a dedicated 2M antenna most of the time to optimize the frequency band I use the most.
