I did a scouting trip to WY last weekend. I may do another. I have some family and a bunch of non LC friends I have been talking to. My plan includes buying a bunch of the viewing glasses, a fun route to get there, a day with local exploring and then the eclipse day. For now just PM me if interested. I may post something here/ RSers always make it more fun!

I'm planning on arriving here on Saturday or Sunday.

This is farther from Denver than I would like to go. I'm planning to take kids out of school, and need to be back home at a reasonable hour on Monday night. But maybe...

I was thinking in this patch of National Forest, there are a bunch of roads around in it.. I like Dave's spot, but this is a tad closer to Denver.

I don't know what they are saying in the Front Range, but in Oregon, they are expecting up to 1.5 Million people will travel to the state to view the event. They are predicting all major roads will be total gridlock for a day or two on either side of August 21st as everyone tries to get to and from their viewing spot. I think it is safe to assume the same thing will occur on all major roads between Denver and Wyoming.

Subscribing - wife and I were talking about this months ago and now that we're almost here, we don't have plans yet but would love to take our kids (and us!) up to see this. If a number of us are going to try to make this happen, would love to participate!

Hulk: Interested to hear what you ultimately decide to do as I'll also have kids I'll need to pull out of school.

Up around the word "Box elder" could be decent. The rest is too far south for best effect.

I have a friend whose parents live in Lander. They have some land there that they might let us use.

Matt, the road concerns are valid. We may want to map out a back road return path.

We've been trying to figure this out as well. Count me in. Also going to bring the kids. I'm good for the whole weekend if it becomes a little longer trip.

Lander is the southern edge of totality. Less than ideal.

I have a back road path in mapped Saturday. I had thought to take 25 home but you are making good points.

I'm sure Jackson will be a zoo. But Wyoming is really big.

I would love to take my family to see this as well...but I'm not into the ZOO thing very much. Would be nice to get out and away from people, but probably impossible with the thousands upon thousands of people going to see this.

In the past, I have been able to see partial eclipses very well with my welding helmet. Really cool.

You're right: Lander is not in the center of the path. If you have a good path, I'm in. We may want to do a scouting mission a week or two prior.

Inukshuk - I'm interested in this trip.

I didn't even think about how crazy busy it might be in places. Definitely want to enjoy this with RS guys.

I'm headed back from Bozeman, Montana a few days prior to the eclipse . Would love to do this with a RS crew, If that doesn't work out, I'll do my usual spot South of Hoback Junction that I've done the last 4 years on this trip.

I'll keep checking back and remain hopeful.

Just in case this year doesn't pan out, check out the path of the 2045 Eclipse
