pretty tough to pass that up. I will be doing a bunch of home projects to get the house ready to sell...was thinking of getting a beater truck to haul stuff, don't want to mess up my pretty 80. :D Any idea how hard it would be to get it to pass Denver emissions?

In Colorado, the seller must provide a current and valid Emissions sheet prior to sale, it's his responsibility to get it to pass, not yours. At least, that's how it worked last year when I sold Clifford. Of course, he could just sell it as a tow-away, and get around the rules. Or you can get 90 days worth of temp tags, then sell it to Magoo!

First you need to find out why it failed! Blue smoke, high HC, rusted cats/exhaust, no cats, missing or dead emission system.........

Really? I sold 3 cars in the last 4 months, and bought 2 new cars. I don't remember any emissions sheets involved in any of the sales....I researched on the DMV site before I sold the cars. did I miss something??

From the Colorado Department of Revenue site:
http://www.revenue.state.co.us/mv_dir/wrap.asp?incl=emissions

Q. When do I need an Emissions test?
A. Change of ownership requires a new passing emissions certificate supplied by the seller at the time of the sale. Tests are required for registration renewal when indicated on registration renewal card. Vehicles 1982 and newer will receive a test which is valid for 2 years. Vehicles 1981 and older will receive a test valid for 1 year.

Thx!

huh.
None of the cars I sold had a problem getting registered without a certificate supplied by me. 2 of them were current on emissions, but I did not give them anything. The 80 I bought did not come with one, and I registered it with no problem....what am I missing here??

Thanks

Where do you live? If you're in Park County, you may be exempt.

Depending on where you live, you may not need the emissions certificate to register your vehicle. I don't know if you are required to provide one as a seller in the emissions-exempt counties however. I've only lived in counties in Colorado where the emissions is required...may be worth a call to the guvment to confirm.

Having a 60 at one time I will say that the worst thing to work on is the emissions system. All that spaghetti and little vsv valves, air pump, rail, cats, carb, etc is a nightmare to diagnose. I guess the only consolation is that you could probably spend the money, get a waiver, desmogg it and and try to pass next time for the 25 year collector plates. A little denatured alcohol may cure everything though.

Yahoo!!! That's a great deal for an ARB, and I'm glad this thread helped find it a good home. A lesson to the rest of you, if you see something worth having post it up! Even if the timing isn't right for you to get it, it's much better to see this stuff go to someone in the family here.. don't worry the paybacks will be tenfold. :D

If I remember right, that is the guy Utley went wheeling with. He had a garage full of Cruiser parts that Zach picked up...
