Good grief, a 3FE motor needing a rebuild goes for $500?
That will get you a perfectly serviceable 22RE not needing much...

H41 H42 will work with that...

that diesel is PRETTY doggy up here...mileage was good...but I think you'd have to turbo that to get anywhere in a reasonable time.

What about a 3FE? IIRC Mike Goodknight over in GJ swaps them in 40s and said they are pretty much bolt up. Don't know and not sure you'll find a 3FE for less than you can just pick up a 2F for...Did you verify what tranny you'll have in the 40?

Still waiting to hear from Oleg on the tranny/tcase. Interesting options...for now I just want to get it up and running as cheaply and as quickly as possible. After I tinker with it for a few months I will have a better idea what I want to do with it. Semi-stock fun driver and mild off-roader is what I have in mind for now...doubt I will ever want a serious rock-crawler.

Thanks!

I wonder how hard it would be to get the sunroof controls in there?

Reading through the MUD threads on this the two parts are actually separate - i.e. the part you, I, etc. have in our 80s today with the dome light and sunroof controls is one piece and the surround with the sub tank and altimeter is another piece. I would imagine you can swap out that center part. IIRC new these are VERY expensive....The downside (beside all the wiring which I think isn't too bad when you don't have the compass) is you need different visors or you have to mod your existing ones. Here is the MUD thread discussing the sub console:

If this were tan I would bid on it just to have it in case I ever get to the point where I add an extra tank. That is unless the bidding got too high :hill:

I wonder what kind of spacers you'd need to put these on an 80? At a past Cruise Moab, there was a guy in an FZJ80 who had Toyota Sequoia wheels. They looked really great, and made the vehicle look much newer too.

You'd need more than spacers. The 470 wheesl are five lug IIRC.
