Today, the music died.

Going to date myself a bit here.

The Sony Electronics stereo receiver I bought the summer of 1994 let the magic smoke out today and won't turn power on. It was the first real stereo component I ever purchased. It was the main stereo in all my different residences until 2008. It then got moved into my shop when I started Brucker Brothers Ltd. Since then it has been powered on everyday for at least 12 hours each day.

It's literally played tens of thousands of hours of music and other audio over the 32 years I have owned it. That alone should speak to the quality. Probably one of the most used purchases of my life. Lots of fond memories.

RIP Sony model STR-D611

You got your money’s worth with this piece. 👍 I have a 1977 era Marantz 2235B powering my garage system. I’m a believer in running gear often so you were doing that and helping the longevity of the Sony, imo. What are you going to replace it with?

I still have my "Carver" receiver and cassette player/recorder that I purchased in 1981 and a Bang & Olufsen record player. Love the old electronics. Still playing my cassettes and records almost every day.

Not quite the vintage and style that you guys have, but cheers to my Yamaha RX-V995 from the late 90s. Owned since new and spent most of it's life working hard in the garage. Using CDs, tapes and Bluetooth\spotify for source, depending on my mood or company.

I utilize both A + B channels to drive a mostly Rockford Fosgate car audio speaker set up. Homemade bookshelf cabinets with RF DVC 8" subs, RF Fanatic Q series 4" mid bass, Boston Acoustics Pro tweets and Infinity passive crossovers. The whole cabinet connected meters at 3 ohms load each, on the A channel. For the B channel, I have a Rockford Power DVC 15" in a sealed box, using L\R for each voice coil and passive crossovers to filter out high frequency.

The back of the receiver states that anything less than a 8 ohm load, only A or B are supposed to be used. Haha. It gets a little warm after a long day but it sounds good, no audible THD, strong mid range and punchy bass, plus able to go into low tone range without being boomy.
The 80s Techniques equalizer is just for visual appeal, tied only to output and not used.
