Have to see how reliable it is. They made the chain even narrower, so I wonder at what point that becomes an issue.
I'm not sure about these 1x12. I think the reason SRAM has gone totally with 1x is that they have never been any good at making front derailleurs so it's strategic move for them to sell them as antiquated.
A Shimano 2x11 with a 38/26 and a 42-11 is going to range from 18 to 100 gear inches. A SRAM 1x12 with a 28 front and 50-10 is going to range from 19 to 92 gear inches. So the range is similar, although each step is steeper.
For comparison a 3x9 using a 22/32/42 and 34-11 has a range from 20 to 110 gear inches. So its' true that the need for those miniature granny gear chainrings is no more.
The SRAM Eagle X01 groupset (cranks, cassette, derailleur, shifter, chain) weighs 1562 grams (1502 grams plus 60 grams for a BB).
The Shimano XT 2x11 groupset (cranks, cassette, derailleurs, shifters, chain) weighs 2052 grams.
